6/ Bianca data show that despite the potential complexity of their molecular interactions, the protease network that regulates immunity is governed by a unifying theme: gene co-expression

5/ There seems to be little to no overlap between the regulation of melanization and antimicrobial activity. Only one protease (CLIPB10) in required for both immune reactions in female #mosquitoes

4/ Bianca’s data show that antimicrobial activity is ruled by at least 5 protease & 3 protease homologs as well as 2 spaetzles (ligands of Toll in insects)

3/ Using this screen, Bianca identified 11 proteases & 9 protease homologs that rule melanization – the largest number of proteases regulating an immune response in any animal that we know of (including our 🩸 clotting and complement activation)

2/ Bianca devised a new in vivo screen that probes both branches of the #mosquito humoral immune response, melanization and antimicrobial activity
