USA/UK/Germany. A doctor, but the bookish kind, not the medical kind.
So, if I've read Decca's collected letters and most of her books, Nancy's collected letters, some of her novels, the letters between the sisters, and Mary Lovell's biography of the family...will the new biography be worth the read?

I just scrolled down, I think all the recent threads have been shown from the beginning. I do think I read less from you maybe last week? But I've also not been on social media a ton so I may just not have logged on at the right time. Now it all seems to be displaying normally though.

I just read that and really struggled to get through it. Horrifying

Mich hat es dieses Jahr auch zum 1. Mal erwischt. Gute Besserung.

So sorry to hear that.

If parenting forums are any indication, there are quite a few parents out there who give their (sometimes very small) children melatonin to help them sleep. I've always shaken my head at that – now even more.

And his perceived authenticity is also one of the keys to Trump's success. All the horrific things he says are taken as evidence of him "saying what he thinks" and not what politicos want him to say.

Yes, I tried it once before and didn't get very far. We'll see how it goes this time.

Proust was worth it but vols 4 & 5 were very tough going. The long sentences weren't too bad, but then I have practice from German lit – I think WG Sebald's Austerlitz had a 10 page sentence. Still great though!

...Sometimes I find that the age at which I read things makes a big difference. (We had The Great Gatsby in 8th grade and it went over my head; four years later I loved it).

...I adore A Room of One's Own and On Illness, so much so that I want to take another stab at Mrs Dalloway soon (I read an essay by Maggie O'Farrell where she reads it as being about illness-related trauma which I find intriguing as I deal with some health challenges). We'll see how it goes – ....

That's very fair! I only read for pleasure these days and see no need to torture myself with things I don't enjoy (although I did stick with Proust through the rough middle volumes, based on recommendations I trusted, and was ultimately glad I did). I struggle with Woolf's fiction myself but ... 1/

This sounds really interesting, thank you! (I take it you are not an E Bronte fan? I much preferred Jane Eyre to WH when I read them, but I think I was about 12 so I'm not sure my taste was terribly refined. I remember being bored by all the brooding on the moors).
