Male, married, Irish-born UK-based librarian, PhD, author of non-selling monograph and various other emissions on Gothic, film and tv, interested in liberal-left politics and (cliche alert) cats. No right-wing trolls, unsolicited DMs or scammers please.
You can see the travel direction here: fascism, a precursor to action against the 'far left' Democrats and cancellation of elections. Look at ICE and the authoritarianism, in only 9 months. All in H2025 - as cold-eyed a plan as has ever been assembled by a cabal of evil, like Miller and Vought.

The very definition of messianic and narcissistic insanity. Even Nero or Idi Amin would blush. And we are living in it. Six SCOTUS ‘justices’, Mike Johnson and the entire GOP also deserve to burn for allowing it.

This is worse. There are no depths, none, to which he and his party (e.g. Mike Lee) won’t sink. The terrible thing is there is zero electoral consequence. Enough voters, it seems, are still as amoral and evil as he is.

Lacking in tastefulness, perhaps, but so (to put it mildly) is the subject…

For no reason at all (ok, therapy), here’s our cat.

If not too late, Happy New Year. Here is a completely irrelevant picture of my cat.

A merry Christmas to all BlueSky people. Instead of It’s A Wonderful Life, here’s a picture from the equally seasonal original version of Goodbye, Mr Chips. I love every frame of that film’s body.

Hijack: finally caught up with this Apple TV production. Elba is fine, and Neil Maskell is predictably excellent and menacing as the lead antagonist. The tense plane scenes are a lot more effective than the smug and occasionally cliched posturing and politicking on the ground though.

Sigh… shall I just immolate the world now, or wait until late January?

Gladiator II: enjoyable but a reprise of elements (including virtually the entire plot) of the original. Paul Mescal is bigger than Crowe, but for me didn't match the older actor’s brawny charisma or declamatory grandeur. Denzel Washington essentially reprises his character arc from Training Day.

Philosophising, looking out at the snow. I want to come back as or swap places with a cat. But not just any cat. THIS cat.

‘Father, what’s out there?’

‘Idiotic voters, son. Tens of millions of them.’

In the spirit of feline friendliness that’s one of the many lovely features on this site, here’s a picture of our ‘Mid’ (Midnight).
