As a mathematician, I can tell you with some confidence that AI is now a genuinely useful tool that I employ on an almost daily basis. Not to craft new arguments or ideas, but as a helper and a surprisingly sentient-seeming wall off which to bounce ideas. This is starkly different from even 4-5m ago

Yeah that often includes the authors themselves. This might be a STEM specific phenomenon though, which also aligns with anecdotal evidence showing most STEM people have a more congenial relationship with AI than those in the humanities.

I think that’s because the Times sees its role in society as smugly lecturing liberals about why the right is correct and/or going to win, in the eternal liberal game of trying to feel smarter and more in touch with “real people” than the next liberal, of which it is the all-time world champion.
