POINT OF ORDER: when I said “probably wouldn’t do it again”
1. I meant all in one day, I would absolutely choose train home over flying anytime it was possible, it was so much nicer than airport
2. I’ve woken up this morning nowhere as tired as I thought so maybe I WOULD do it again in a day

(Funny thing, I feel all swaying, like when you’ve got your sea legs on a boat and then step on dry land again!)

And just like that (with final delays caused by cattle on the track!) we have made it home. Probably wouldn’t do it again, but certainly not the worst travel day I’ve ever had.

Eurostar was a little late in but no matter. Recharged with a cup of tea in Kings Cross and am now aboard train 5 of 5 🍾 It has the distinction of being the most fragrant train to date, as everyone is on with takeaway suppers 😂 thought I’d be dead on my feet by now but feeling surprisingly ok

Can’t do a swift interchange in Brussels but after the most annoying part of the journey (the waiting!), now on the Eurostar for train 4 of 5. There will be another annoying wait in London because we miss the last LNER and I’ll be trying my first Lumo but thus far I’m feeling solid 🤞🤞

On to train 3 of 5! Feeling good so far, got iced tea and a snacks and a good crime drama downloaded so on we go!

So yes it will take me all day BUT I don’t have to go to the airport (my most hated place) or get on an airplane, and from spite I try to always avoid paying luggage fees, and I can carry whatever liquids I please, and it cost the same.

When I looked at coming home from Salzburg, the closest airport to fly direct was Munich.

Train to airport: £20
I found a train connection from Salzburg to London for £122 (Eurostar summer sale) and then £40 for the last leg.

Train 1 dispensed with, and now onto train 2 of 5.
