We had an 85% reduction in disruptions and it is not true that everything stops if there is a disruption as was suggested here. The whole point of the Utrecht reconstruction being that one corridor may fail, but all the other corridors keep running.

Kapazitaet gibt es fuer etwa 100 abfahrten pro stunde. Da kommt man richtung 1.500 am Tag. Heute sind es bis 75 abfahrten pro stunde. Also 1.000-1.100 am Tag.

The busiest corridor thus allows for max 24 IC departures for Amsterdam at track 5/7. Currently we’re at 14, so still room for growth

One of the five corridors terminates in Utrecht (max 12 departures/h on tracks 1-4). One “macht kopf” (max 16 departures/h on tracks 8-12). The other eight tracks are for the remaining three through corridors. (Max 12 departures/h per track).

Good to hear that the trains were behaving today. Next time in Utrecht, do stay for a beer.

Let us just agree that the experiment has failed

I would agree that this illustrates the complete and utter failure of EU policy concerning privatisation of railway services. Thus far we saw state companies of different mediterranean or nordic countries competing against each other. Now it is different state companies within the same country..

Reducing car use has other benefits, such as lower emissions and support for denser development, but the need to use space efficiently is the key thing that no technology will change.👏
