Wow, loving our greenhouse - already have the first tomatoes turning red! Only a couple weeks into summer (not even proper summer, 22 Dec in Aotearoa, yet) Crazy! This is months before we've ever had ripening fruit pre-greenhouse. [1/2]

Just disposing of a couple Indian pickles in my substantial collection. These two had a pretty good run. Need to make room in the cupboard for more recent acquisitions.
The backs of a jar of "Mother's Recipe" brand Karnataka Cut Mango pickle, expiry Jan 2017, and one of "Priya" brand Gongura pickle (Hibiscus Cannabinus with garlic in oli), expiry Feb 2016. A good run. Both tasted fine as of yesterday.

The sun's out again in Ōtautahi! The local skink community is taking full advantage!
A photo of my Lizardarium, two sets of staggered old clay roofing tiles - with a sunny outlook - set into a dirt pile that's now covered in lush grass and native plants for cover. There are at least 4 native grass skinks visible. Can you spot them? Another angle of the Lizardarium, should be 4 skinks visible there, too.

There are at least two Aotearoa native grass skinks in this picture... Can you see them?

Two skinks in our Lizardarium: this view shows two stacks of old clay roofing tiles, staggered to provide a good place for skinks to sun themselves with easy access to shelter, with lots of grass growing up around it to provide plenty of cover. The skinks are poking from between the top two tiles on each stack.

I think she's been here since we arrived, almost 6 years ago... Just saw her again. Well, I looked for her, and found her where she usually hangs out, under a bit of roofing iron put down specifically to provide a safe skink habitat - part of our lizardarium... [1/2]
Here's 3-leg, the native grass skink matriarch of our yard, with her stumpy left front leg in view. She's positioned along our fence line, at the top of a timber retaining wall that's on our neighbour's side of the fence. Also visible is the edge of the sheet of black roofing iron under which she can often be found. She's become quite tolerant of my fairly regular checks on her well-being. She's a dear soul, I reckon.

Over the weekend, I saw the first skink of the season taking in the sun in our "Lizardarium"...

Holy cow, only 24 hrs after putting it out in the yard, the silver eyes have already found the new sugar water feeder! I'm delighted 🤩🤗 Will try to get some better pictures.
