Managing chronic illness is a full-time job

Can't count, can prob[stats] math?

Prefer no 3rd person pronouns OR ze|zir|zem/zeir/zeirself (they/them/themself okay)
I've known quite a few ex-Catholic Quakers, too

Quakers don't have the smells and bells, nor any sort of top-down structured worship.

What they do have is a particular brand of mysticism, strong culture of community service and outreach, and very explicitly/vocally queer-friendly environment

I'm a basically a hunt-and-peck typist, I'm not great at it

But having the option would have been nice at times, especially given my knack for getting hand injuries and assorted nerve impingements

(Probably not helped by my index finger going z-shaped when I write, but *anywho*)

That said, there's a lot of really fucked-up framing on these issues

Tech will generally stay one step ahead of detection efforts, it's an aggressor's advantage arms race

You want shit to be accessible, which often means having tech involved

Imo, accessibility is king

3. My handwriting was small + brevity was not my strong suit, and I'd get docked by most teachers for putting two lines per ruled line but I couldn't stand the spacing of 1 line per line (which caused me visceral, physical discomfort in the way that boredom can sometimes be physically painful)

I loathed Blue Books for very specific reasons

1. They were always standard-ruled, not college-ruled

2. The paper quality was shit and tore too easily; even as a pencil-wielding righty everything smeared terribly, wouldn't erase for beans, and the paper tore from the pressure of my pencil

One of my friends describes himself as "an emotionally complicated houseplant" partly because of his extreme SAD issues and how not getting proper sunlight tanks his existence

I want to get back to drafting mode for Book 2 before being out of town in early Jan; drafting on the tablet makes it super portable and I want momentum to be in my favor

(And I refuse to do edits without multiple, spacious monitors)

Also need to wrangle another admin task or three XP

The sole upside:

I got a bunch of pics so I can show my doc what the rxns look like when I have my annual visit next month

Are y'all familliar with Maya Kern?

I only heard about them this year, and their skirts are fucking fantastic for me

Massive pockets (literally large enough to fit a Nintendo Switch in) and very inclusive sizing (I'm 5'2" and quite fat; the midi skirts are closer to full length on me)

I've been taking this month to focus on edits and admin tasks for Book 1 over drafting

This week, I thought I was gonna have to cut a Really Cool Thing from this WIP. But I gave one last crack at rewriting the relevant chapters and saved it + made it even betterer!

Yay for nondominant hand!

Dominant hand injuries are incredibly rude XP My hands have entered the winter phase where cuticles actively peel apart + shred themselves and this year's baaaad

My dominant thumb got wombo'ed by that plus a bad hangnail pull this week, it's been a *delightful* few days

You're all gravy! Pain is a motherfucker like that!

(And burns are especially rude, with how they sensitize your nerve endings to *everything*)

I am glad to hear you're faring better now, even if it's still a royal pain to wrangle :3
December 21, 2025 at 3:32 PM
NSAIDs can be helpful, when I dummy and burn myself 200-400mg ibuprofen usually helps take the edge off

Your nerve endings are basically just all going "ARGH, EEEEE, OOOOOH, OW" and sending accordingly fucky signals cuz they don't know what's happening but they don't like it XP

Antihistamines can sometimes help the itching (if caused by mast cells freaking out), but YMMV

I know folks who've had good experiences treating with honey, I can't speak to that personally

Limit ice pack time if you can (cool is good, cold can cause further tissue damage)
December 21, 2025 at 3:20 PM
Generally keep the area clean + dry, and of course monitor for any signs of infection

It's important to let the damaged skin breathe + have uncovered time, *and* to protect it from further damage

+1 for old cotton sock mitten or cotton rag(s) to protect when sleeping etc., gauze also works ofc
December 21, 2025 at 3:20 PM
On the upside, running under cold water was 100% the play, and you're reporting no blisters; you offloaded enough heat to limit tissue damage

First degree burns don't require dressing generally, but it sounds like you're on the cusp between first and second (no blisters, but multiple skin layers)

*hugs appreciated*

It's just a big 'ol insult to injury kinda moment

I want to do book 1 edits or draft more of book 2, but sitting aggravates the nerve issue

Bathing makes nerve thing worse

Internet outage means no watching my new drama

Power flickers mean I can't even do laundry XP
December 19, 2025 at 3:38 PM
On the upside, I got 2 secondhand monitors for a decently low price, meaning it's time for an office rearrangement weekend

I'm going to use my old PC (built mid-2017) as my dedicated place for wrangling edits and doing most other writing-related work

(Initial drafting will still be done on tablet)

Oh...

That...might have just crit my face off
