Back with Puppet of the Day: In 1964, Michael Meschke staged an adaptation of Alfred Jarry’s anarchic and scatological play Ubu Roi at the Marionetteatern performing arts theatre in Stockholm. The costumes, sets, and puppets for the production were crafted by Franciska and Stefan Themerson.

Puppet of the Day: This stunning Nigerian “Osagnin” puppet, made of wood, cloth, beads, and hide, was used by priests of Osanyin, the god of healing. In ceremonies, the puppet would apparently speak in a squeaky voice, play whistles, or rings bells to deliver prophecies to patients seeking guidance.
