"Bradley's Men" (2025)
An original poem to commemorate the life of my dear friend. Who stands in as a symbol for the lives of so very many 'dear friends'. May you rest in peace knowing you fought with honor, are loved, and never forgotten. 🩵💛

New thought. Taylor's yellow sweatshirt... This ref to A12 in Miami is a shout-out to Kendrick Lamar, Jack Antonoff, "Mustard" & SounWave in "6:16 in LA". 6+6=12 & 1st letter of alphabet is A. ALSO, 'A' stands for itself & 'L'= 12th letter of the alphabet. Each individual is represented: 2 prod+Dot.

After False Analogy, I would call out playing intentionally with conditional arguments or hypothetical syllogisms: "if/then" of deductive reasoning. He gives the game away; neither the antecedent nor the consequent are remotely related. AFFIRMING THE CONSEQUENT, DENYING THE ANTECEDENT. Fallacies.

So, given the discussion we had about cognitive fallacy, let's apply it to the Vice President's post on X. For me, I immediately call FALSE ANALOGY. Vance compares 3 situations to each other as if they are the same & they are NOT. The judicial branch does exist to check & balance the executive one.

On other notes I underscored how cognitive fallacies that cycle within this topic of Leaving Maga are: No True Scotsman, Personal Incredulity, the Fallacy of Social Proof, the Spiral of Silence (to name just a few). I believe the hostile media effect is likely in there somewhere -- likely, right?
February 8, 2025 at 4:41 PM
In response, I called out a few obvious fallacies. I turned a few back onto him in kind - as I mentioned, humor & satire can be effective as resistance... I called out Hasty Generalisation, Faulty Analogy, Ad Hominem, Fallicious Appeal to Authority, Red Herring, Loaded Question & Moving Goalposts.
February 8, 2025 at 4:35 PM
My ACTUAL RESPONSE to him was loaded in satirical humor. It did egg on & so I blocked the person immediately after posting because I thought better of it. But I think we have a chance to learn how to identify argumentative & cognitive problems immediately in moments that matter. To "Steelman".
February 8, 2025 at 4:24 PM
Now, had I simply said, "who are you to talk? Some IT guy? You probably don't know anything about it anyway." That would be an example of "Tu Quoque". But I did not say that, did I? I said, "Objection! Relevance? On the grounds of: 1) Fallacy of Appeal to Authority, and 2) Red Herring Fallacy."
February 8, 2025 at 4:21 PM
A friend on 🧵(correctly) assessed that if I had continued to mince words with him, he would continue to MOVE THE GOALPOSTS. This is already another cognitive fallacy in and of itself -- one that we see OFTEN in current politics, esp. with this presidential administration.

In assuming a "meta" approach that (ahem, cognitive fallacies already abound, falsely) assumed cultivating bias, this man then proposed a question. "Perhaps you are a narcissist?" Well, in fact, I'm an empath and have survived narcissistic abuse. Thanks, but no thanks, for your "Loaded Question".
February 8, 2025 at 4:13 PM
In grossly misinterpreting my answer to the question he posed, he set up a 'Strawman'. In showing how he could IMPROVE his argument & what we all can LEARN FROM IT, I am setting up a 'Steelman'. In underscoring his age & IT profession (relevance to this?) he's somehow working "Appeal to Authority".
February 8, 2025 at 4:07 PM
More cognitive biases & fallacies to know that show up in this ONE INTERACTION that went so awry. I believe 1 point this man made was he felt I made a HASTY GENERALISATION using an unfit anecdote. I used an anecdote illustrating a LOGICAL CONCLUSION; therefore, this would NOT qualify as a fallacy.
February 8, 2025 at 3:55 PM
It's impressive I can keep going. For those of you who want me to chill out on this poor soul... no. This is the type of rhetoric we need to learn to spot in the wild, identify & call by name. He littered his response with ideas completely unrelated to news : age, IT, meta, narcissism. RED HERRINGS.
February 7, 2025 at 11:59 PM
Generally, we don't spend enough time within US education discussing/learning about cognitive fallacies... And with the current "administration", we need to be better versed. Another cognitive fallacy this angry man used was "Faulty Analogy" where he equated my wording with 'meta' & 'meta' w/bias.
February 7, 2025 at 11:42 PM
The reason I'm focused on this flagrant overreaction to my response (to his OWN QUESTION) is because he employs multiple cognitive & argumentative fallacies. In attempting to pin me on a false fallacy (using 'meta' to provoke bias in studies) he's introduced his own. Most obviously, "Ad Hominem".

Given the diversity of meaning of modern "meta" from the Greek root "μετα-", & the fact that I was never talking about statistical study/analysis presentation, I'd just like to clear the name of the Greek root μετα- of any potential problematic involvement, here. Self analysis is always important!
February 7, 2025 at 9:26 PM
The root word "meta-", which comes from the Greek "μετα-", means "after", "around", "beside", "with", "beyond", "adjacent", and "self". The way the root is combined dictates the meaning. Often, "meta" comments refer to self analysis. But a META BIAS refers to how statistical studies are presented.

"'Never Again' is NOW."
We stand up for independent news, human rights (incl. for those in marginalized minorities). We stand up for the European Union & alliances dedicated to peace & communication. We are opposed to fascism - or ruling with the right of the 'fasces' - inherent ability to punish.

"If comfort is a construct, I don't believe in good luck, now that I know what's what." TAS. Part of Bey's point in CC is "COUNTRY is a construct". She challenges the strict delineations of what a "country" sound is as it's a reflection of country for many. Meanings are deep. It's like fearless.

The video clip length, posted at 11:33, is 13sec long. At 9sec the perspective or viewpoint of the frame shifts to this evenly split composition. 13-9=4, which is evenly divided as 2 and 2... Again, we have a visual representation of a numeric idea. 2|2.
