I cold plunge now. Just get up early on a day off so I can walk into the Puget Sound and watch the sunrise.

Today, I begin the era of They Might Be Giants’ sixth studio album: Factory Showroom!

First up, tmbg’s sexiest(?) song.

Never thought I’d willingly get up before 7am, 2 weekends in a row to cold plunge. But just look at this.

“wrestling with my own depression, growing up in a family full of mental health struggles, and then reeling from a family suicide, Thermostat was catharsis.”

Sometimes, a song that’s probably meant to be about a literal broken thermostat can take on a very deep and personal meaning. This is that song.

On this day, 37 years ago, one of my all time favorite albums released. Happy 37th to the @tmbg.bsky.social masterpiece - LINCOLN!

I’ve written about my love and personal connection to every song on this album. The link below will take you there. www.kissmesonofblog.com/t/lincoln?so...

“I don’t know what’s wrong with me,” she said.

“You don’t?” I replied.

This week I wrote about the difference between feelings and facts.

It’s been a minute since I’ve done this so I thought I’d take a second to say

“HI!”

I’m Chase.

I write Kiss Me, Son of Blog, a dive into the songs of They Might Be Giants.

Writing my way through this recent life event has been extremely helpful. Here are some thoughts I had the other night.

Does this look like a guy who has never golfed?

Yes.

This weekend, I’m writing a special something for the song “Spy” by They Might Be Giants. If all goes according to plan, it will be equal parts personal, celebrating the music, and dangerous espionage.

Take that, whoever said I’d never be the 84th most popular music newsletter by writing exclusively about They Might Be Giants songs every week.

Just knocked back my fourth banana colada of the day since noon. I will kill this bottle of rum before the day is over.

But you might feel compelled to read my new post about They Might Be Giants, crush confusion, and musical hypnosis.

Growing up, my mom always said I would never be a 97th-ranked-in-Humor writer on an internet list. Well guess what, MOM?

(She’s actually not going to see this, I’m no-contact with my mom)

4. Book - the most recent official studio album released. I listen to this album start to finish pretty often. All the songs are in my usual playlists. It’s a great listen. AND a great read! (The album “cover” is a physical book full of typographic art of the song lyrics and photography.)

3. My Murdered Remains/More Murdered Remains (bonus disc) is massive. 32 tracks and I really like every one of them. When I finally make it to this album on my newsletter in the year 2029, it will take me 7.5 months of weekly essays about the songs and will take me through to 2030!

2. Join Us - officially made after Here Comes Science. This one is a very good time. Some of its highlights for me are Cloisenné, When Will You Die, Spoiler Alert, and The Lady and The Tiger. That last one has no business going so hard.

1. The Spine/The Spine Surfs Alone EP - this technically came out during the kid music era but these as a combo are fantastic. I also recently snagged The Spine Surfs Alone on vinyl which includes some other rarities and I absolutely love it.
