I stand corrected about the 10 years of filings, but if you’re covered asset wise you do have to pay the exit tax. I am in the covered category so would need to pay the tax, and luckily now would qualify for travel under the visa waiver program.

Nope. The law assumes any act of renunciation is for tax purposes, so you either are still subject to US income tax for 10 years or run an exercise simulating a liquidation of all global assets and pay a capital gains tax on the lot. And the interview for renunciation now costs like $5k alone.

I’m a US born dual national and I’d take my UK chosen nationality. But they’d probably pull the same game they do now under renunciation where they give you a monstrous tax bill to pay if you ever want to enter the US again to visit your family or friends.

I used to live and still vote in her district and I consistently voted against her in the primaries for whoever was challenging her from the left. Her district is a lot more left wing than she is.
