Several folks I know have shared on Discord their "top 25" games. I gave it a go. To prevent any franchise from dominating, I've limited myself to one (1) per series*. These are not in order. Less of a "top 25," more so games which have left an impression. Many, MANY omissions. Gets hard to choose!

Thanks for your attention given to the first post! Here are a few more practice runs from last night on Mario Paint (via SNES - Nintendo Classics). Once more, I used the Joy-Con 2 controller on its side.

Mario Paint got added to SNES - Nintendo Classics today. This is my first time playing it. Here are a couple test drawings done using the Joy-Con 2 controller as a mouse. Learning about this program as I go. Would be funny to start making actual pieces with this.

I paid hundred of dollars for Nintendo Switch 2 only to get sucked back into yet another full replay of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. This is among my top comfort games for certain; between the GCN and Wii U versions, I've lost count of how many files I've made.

Super Mario Land is a fine little game. Its sequel is a step up, yeah, but rewind keeps silly deaths from being too frustrating. I like that these titles put Mario in less typical levels. I'd like to see a new take on the Land series—still bite-size.

Hell yeah. The "Twin Peaks: From Z to A" Blu-ray set has arrived, which I decided would be my reward for walking every day in January. I'd used up a couple free trials to watch everything the first time, so I'm pleased to have it all in one reliable place.

At last, the trilogy is complete! These are my thoughts on Mass Effect 3. Beware, they contain SPOILERS. For my thoughts on ME1 and ME2, check #MassEffect posts by user. These games will stay with me, I think.
Finished Mass Effect 3. Post has SPOILERS. I like it. There are little things about it which help me understand how it hasn't surpassed M.E. 2 as the general fave. Earliest thoughts were along the lines of: This game feels like it's WAITING for you to fuck up. For me, I don't like there being a penalty for excess weight when that is not an issue prior. Browsing shops' kiosks on the Citadel activates my blind rage when the "ad voice" does not stop talking, so I avoid using them. Although certain missions can be completed using Spectre Requisitions if you miss their corresponding items in the field, I still dislike how easily missed certain items can be. I never had to rely on S.R., but I have had to double-check the M.E. wiki to be sure which missions had which item(s). I was anxious initially about a lack of fuel depots and annoyed that my fuel capacity had been reduced from 1,500 to 1 K; however, I got by. It helps to remember docking at the Citadel constitutes a free refuel. There are several highlights as well, such as content along the Silversun Strip—between the mission at the apartment ending with the party, and add'l character hangouts. Loved the arcade. My only regret is I would end up doing that section before visiting the Perseus Veil, so I lacked Tali at the party (& Legion & Miranda, if it were possible to include them). I don't have any strong feelings about the "clone" aspect, but everything else is just VIBES. During the Leviathan mission, I felt like a Big Daddy from BioShock entering the depths. Importing my Shepard was the best decision of them all, because it makes this complex world feel all the more cohesive. I feel personally rewarded for making the choices I had previously. The main story "Priority" missions have ever more weight to them, as most of them finally take us to or in proximity of several races' home worlds, and major plot lines emphasized throughout the trilogy gain opportunities for address. For example, I cured the genophage on Tuchanka and brokered peace between the quarians and geth on Rannoch. These are miraculous feats in this world, although I regret they came at the cost of two of my comrades. One more ally had his moment of sacrifice on the Citadel. These are the only three I've lost across all three games—here, in this final stretch. Mordin, Legion, and Thane are all good ones. I'm forced to wonder what other version of the game is underneath it all, where characters I view as crucial to the plot just aren't alive to facilitate the parts I do know. Both my Reputation (Paragon) and Total Military Strength meters were maxed out by game's end, so I had options regarding what I could do. I think the buildup to the end is pretty nicely done. The endings themselves? I feel conflicted. I'd paused my game for, like, ten minutes to text my friend about what I should do, or consult the internet. The first ending I received was Synthesis, which I got by accident because my dumb ass failed to register the consoles at either side as the Control and Destroy endings; I merely limped toward the big fucking light beam in the middle. When the game spawns me post-credits back on the Normandy, I restarted that final mission to see what the Destroy ending looked like. I could not be bothered to play out the Control or Refuse endings; I would look those up on YouTube afterward. Thoughts: Destroy feels like it satisfies the parameters of the long-term mission to, well, destroy the Reapers. However, it leaves a poor taste in my mouth, for one, to make the development of the geth and EDI across three games amount to nothing. I feel I've betrayed Legion's trust. And what's to stop any future civilization from developing sentient A.I. again? The Reapers as we know them won't exist, but for how long until the cycle begins anew? This is the only choice in which Shepard can survive, so there's that. Refuse and Control endings I straight-up don't like. Refuse in particular would earn Shepard a slap in the face and a scolding. While I find the result of Synthesis rather intrusive, I do think my Shepard would have sacrificed herself to save as many lives as possible at the finish line and honored all her allies. The game certainly nudges you in that direction, anyway. I've noticed it's also the only ending which shows the quarians without their helmets. I've been playing via the Legendary Edition on Steam, and my play time is 169.3 hours, spread across ME1, ME2, and ME3. I'd bought it on sale because it's my friend's favorite thing, and now it's earned a home in my own mind. What a start to my year. I've completed Mass Effect 2 for the first time via the Legendary Edition. These are my thoughts and final results. Be warned of SPOILERS! They're in there. Cannot be bothered to translate this text to a cohesive thread like I had ME1, which can be found via #MassEffect.
Too much text. Here's the heavily truncated version: - Beat Mass Effect 2 (ME2), a "fan fave" entry. - Did NOT like the changes it made from ME1 initially. (EXPECT SPOILERS FROM HERE) - Imported my ME1 Shep; world felt more cohesive for it. - Game crashed once; another time, fell off geometry. - Planet-probing Simulator 2025. Too much text. Truncated version: - Be careful with money; it's limited. - Can't remove full-body armors' helmets; used individual headgear to make Shep's face visible during dialogue/cutscenes. - UI can get messy/distracting. - Do the side missions. Faves are loyalty missions and DLC. - Kasumi 👍; Overlord hub reminds me of XC; Overlord's David is ironic 2001:ASO ref?; Arrival, narratively, should be played toward the end but before the Normandy attack. - Became "just friends" with Liara so I could guilt-free romance Garrus. - Thought Morinth would be a second asari squad mate before finding out it was either/or; Legion was a way better surprise. Too much text. Truncated version: - ALL recruited, ALL loyal, ALL upgrades, NO deaths for anyone—squad or crew. - Got used to bringing Garrus/Kasumi. Least used: Zaeed. Ended game with Garrus/Miranda. - Joker is clutch. Also looks like Shesez from Boundary Break. - Climax in ME2 really feels like an all-hands effort compared to ME1. - The only true pisser in the game is the turian in the Dark Star Lounge bathroom. - I am tired of the Citadel Council's skepticism and inaction. Not to end it on that note, I must ask if there's anything else y'all want to know regarding my thoughts on Mass Effect 2, or any important decisions I haven't mentioned. Some of them I laid bare, others are implied by a fully loyal and surviving squad. Going into ME3, I'm hopeful the ending in the Legendary Edition will satisfy. I'll have peace of mind at least that all my decisions will come to a head within this game, as will certain lore storylines concerning the quarians, geth, and the krogan genophage. They seem to be continually emphasized. I hear ME3 is more similar to ME2 and I won't have to get used to some drastic change again. Good. Told myself I'd take a breather until I launch it, but I'm so close, I kinda want to be done. This and Castlevania: Nocturne have been literally all I've gotten into this month.
