My Massachusetts-born law/platonic life partner received this email today in which DHS "encourages" her to leave the United States "immediately on your own" rather than face criminal prosecution, which is of course fine and normal
Some personal news: the Department of Homeland Security has given me, an immigration lawyer born in Newton, Massachusetts, seven days to leave the U.S. Does anyone know if you can get Italian citizenship through great-grandparents?

Here are two straightforward and incontrovertible statements of law about Mahmoud Khalil:

1) Khalil is a political prisoner of the United States

2) Khallil is a "prisoner of conscience" as defined by Amnesty International

We need to say these things, and the world needs to hear them

UPDATE: ICE is wildly unconcerned about where this man is and no one will tell me, his registered attorney. The universal answer so far is "let's wait and see where he ends up." This is deeply off.

We would have more rights at this point if UPS had lost a pair of shoes I'd just bought from Zappos
My detained client was scheduled for a bond hearing this AM in a MA immigration court. He wasn't brought in, and he and his case have disappeared.

I then received this notice of activity on a nonexistent docket in which his name was changed to "N/A"

It's all happening a lot faster than I expected

Please tell your friends and family about CECOT. 60 Minutes recently made a documentary about it. If you have any ideas as to how to push back against the Trump admin's use of it, or how to pressure the return of prisoners who were in the US, please share those too.
U.S. sent 238 migrants to Salvadoran mega-prison; documents indicate most have no apparent criminal records
The U.S. sent 238 Venezuelan migrants to a Salvadoran mega-prison. The Trump administration says they're all gang members, but 60 Minutes could find no criminal records for 75 percent of them.
