... which might actually be a good thing, because Thumper has a super annoying voice. Actually, most of the child voice actors were kind of annoying. It is a good looking movie, though. Animating a deer cannot be easy.

Bambi (Disney+): The first movie I ever saw at a theater, we also later owned it on VHS; I don't think we watched it very often, because I only have some general memories of what happens in it. It's not a very fun movie. Thumper and Flower have less screentime than I remembered...

So many characters have giant holes blasted though them to no effect. Death no longer seems to be a problem. The dark red sky in the background for most of the fights also makes the whole thing just unpleasant to look at.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – Season 2 (Hulu on Disney+): The excitement of Bleach's return has worn off. This season is filled with nothing but battles where characters continuously one-up each other with new random powers that become increasingly unbelievable.

Oh yeah, the commentary. Cole was decent (except for one horrible call in the WrestleMania match), Lawler's Lawler, Ross had lost his touch by this time, Grisham could have been replaced by AI, and Striker was just terrible.

To show you how far they've come, there is also only one women's match on this set: it took place during the "Piggy James" angle and it ended after just two moves.

There were lackluster gimmick matches, heels acting illogically, and one match so bad that you could hear people in the crowd chanting "Boring." There are seven future world champions in these matches, but only one (Cody), mayyybe two (McIntyre), would become consistent main eventers.

WWE Best Pay-Per-View Matches 2009-2010 (WWE BD): Either whoever was compiling this set wasn't very good at their job or matches in WWE at this time just weren't very good. I thought that three matches here were worth watching: two midcard Mysterio matches and the HBK/Taker WrestleMania rematch.

Different sport, but it makes me miss my days watching the Detroit Vipers play in the IHL, another secondary league that over-expanded, spent too much money, and went out of business.

At least we never did anything stupid like (twice) electing him president. 🥶
January 10, 2026 at 12:46 AM
Small Potatoes: Who Killed the USFL? (ESPN on Disney+): I can't believe this is already sixteen years old. Even back then they were making documentaries about what a dumb businessman he was. They even got him to appear in it, and he comes off as a thin-skinned, condescending jerk.

The fight scenes might have been better if they had a little more blood and a lot less plain white impact frames. The Hollywood voice cast in these movies continues to be less than ideal. I was impressed that they gave a reason for why here costume has a USA theme, but it still looks ridiculous.

Wonder Woman (YouTube): I liked the Wonder Woman character in the Justice League cartoons, but not so much the episodes that featured her and characters based off of the old Greek mythology, which this movie had plenty of. Steve Trevor and all of the man vs. woman dialogue was just annoying.

Monsters, Inc. (Disney+): I'd seen parts of this on TV before, but never the whole thing. It was good, better than Bug's Life, not quite as good as Toy Story. Sully was a pretty impressive looking CG creature, but Boo looked a bit... funky. CG humans hadn't been perfected yet in 2001.
January 6, 2026 at 11:49 PM
GoodFellas (The Roku Channel): Things really get crazy in the second half of this movie. The runtime is two and a half hours, but it doesn't feel long at all. Pesci is great portraying an absolute madman, but there's no way he and Liotta are supposed to be the same age.
January 3, 2026 at 2:52 PM
Shinewbi (MANGA Plus): Cute character designs, a perfectly fine but forgettable action-romance. The male MC's gimmick of turning into a kid after using his powers ended up being pretty pointless. Still feel like the manga needs to more explicitly define what a "shinewbi" is.

The Punisher (Tubi): Lots of explosions, even more deaths. It was made when America was terrified of Japan, so you even get the Yakuza as villains. Lundgren seems to have attended the Stallone School of Acting. Way too many scenes of the Mafia meet-ups. It all adds up to a dull and drab movie.
December 30, 2025 at 11:54 PM
Kiki's Delivery Service (HBO Max): I saw at least part of this when it aired on Disney Channel way back when. It's just a super charming movie. I can't help but notice that Miyazaki once again loves to have his young character's dress blowing up in the wind.

The animation at times looked too smooth and video gamey, but the action scenes and vehicles probably demanded that it be rendered in 3D.
December 27, 2025 at 2:46 PM
SAND LAND: THE SERIES (Hulu on Disney+): A fine little series. I was glad they kept Rao and Thief for the second half, they were the best characters in the show. Muniel's character design and personality were both perfectly awful, I couldn't wait to see him be defeated.
December 27, 2025 at 2:46 PM
Mosaic (Fandango at Home): A bit better than I expected! Anna Paquin was mostly okay as the lead and the animation was at least as good as what you'd see on TV at the time. In the end it felt like a pilot for a series that was never made, though.

Apparently Jimmy Olsen travels all the way to Illinois to hang out with some high school girls, one of which he seems to be in a relationship with. The scenes at the school didn't end up mattering much, why didn't they just put them in college?

The whole movie would have been improved if they just licensed John Williams' Superman theme.
