gen:LOCK - Season One (HBO Max): This was decent at best; if Toonami never airs the second season, I won't bother to watch it. The bad guys were way too underdeveloped and the relationship drama was just terrible. The voice acting was mostly fine, but Jordan was the weakest.

Kimagure Orange Road OVA (RetroCrush): Ah, the good ol' days, when the switch from TV to OVA/Movie meant a noticeable increase in animation quality. Unfortunately there was no improvement in the writing department. There are only eight OVA episodes, yet somehow two of them feature body-swap plots.

Coraline (The Roku Channel): Huge respect for the skill and effort to make this movie, but it just didn't do anything for me. I should have guessed that it'd be too weird for me when Coraline's father and his giant neck first appeared on the screen.

Blue Exorcist -Beyond the Snow Saga- (Adult Swim): The two story arcs in this cour felt pretty disconnected from one another. The first arc was okay, but the second... that turn of events just didn't seem very likely based off of everything that had happened in the story so far.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles – The Divine Visionary Candidate Exam Arc (Adult Swim): Nope, still don't like this at all. The fights aren't entertaining, the humor doesn't land with me, the characters are annoying, and their dub voices are even worse.

Platinum End (Hulu on Disney+): I started watching this when it first came out but never finished it because Crunchyroll made it available only to Premium members. Now I've finally completed it four years later. I remembered the big ideas but had forgotten some of the details and minor characters.

Blood Wing Hunter (MANGA Plus): Completely generic and forgettable, but I would have kept reading it if it had continued because I liked the design and personality of the main girl... I am a shallow man.

How Green Was My Valley (TCM): Can't say that I was expecting a black-and-white movie with that title. Good movie, sadly features issues still relevant today: judgmental hypocrites in the church and greedy businessmen who exploit their workers.

Finding Nemo (Disney+): I was too "mature" to watch this with my family in the theater when it originally came out, now I'm in my 40s and watching it by myself. Huh. Anyway, the undersea locations look great and the humans look less plasticy, but some of the fish look like they're made of rubber.

Eunuch of Empire (MANGA Plus): Less ecchi than I expected, more murder mystery than I expected. The three sisters were a bit underdeveloped (their characterization, not their bodies). The final chapter was a fine ending, but Jafar's missing sister subplot was wrapped up way too abruptly.

Re/Member: The Last Night (MANGA Plus): Again, not a fan of horror, but this was more silly than scary. Maybe it works better as a live action film (the jumpscares probably do). Maybe it works better if you've read the original series (I doubt it). Regardless, this did nothing for me.

Harukaze Mound (MANGA Plus): Twin brothers who are rivals in high school baseball, what an original premise! The rival brother was quickly sidelined, the lead brother wasn't very interesting, and too many characters were introduced too soon. The coach wasn't enough to save this one.
January 26, 2026 at 3:29 PM
G.G.G. (MANGA Plus): Good premise and a strong start, but I never liked Jimmy and his Jessica-obsession and it lost something when it moved to the Omega's past and the larger battles. The final chapter was a nice way to wrap the series up though.
January 25, 2026 at 9:08 PM
Daredevil (Disney+): I wish the Director's Cut was streaming, because there's a lot of potential in this movie. Affleck's not perfect and Garner may not have been the best choice for Elektra, but the rest of the cast is great; it's a shame that we didn't get more of Michael Clarke Duncan's Kingpin.
January 25, 2026 at 3:03 PM
Ryota Killed His Brother (MANGA Plus): Yuck. I'm not a fan of horror, so this series already had that going against it, but this just wasn't any good. It was just kind of gross and dumb and too long. Even the final chapter was unsatisfying.

Only Yesterday (HBO Max): All of this time I thought those were two different girls on the poster. I was going to say that they made this movie with no consideration for commercial viability, but apparently it was the number one movie in Japan the year it came out, so once again, I am dumb.

Otr of the Flame (MANGA Plus): I liked this more than Red Hood, but I wasn't one of those who thought that Red Hood was some masterpiece in the making; in fact, I didn't like it at all! The art is good but still seems a bit too busy to me. How many authors have gotten a third shot in Shonen Jump?

Mission: Yozakura Family (Hulu on Disney+): Nothing remarkable, just a good anime adaptation of a good manga. I read the whole series when it was simulpublished, but I'd forgotten about some of the characters that appear in the beginning. Taiyo become superhuman awfully quick.
January 17, 2026 at 3:30 PM
Insomniacs After School (Hulu on Disney+): Ah, yes, this is the good stuff. A nice little anime about two good kids, their slowly budding relationship, and all of the nice people around them. I'll definitely be buying the Blu-ray release of this show... when Sentai has one of their ridiculous sales.
January 16, 2026 at 7:32 PM
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (HBO Max): Hey, Lois is back... did she somehow forget that Clark is Superman? Luthor's back too, but he never seems right in these movies because I'm so used to how he was portrayed in the '90s animated series. This wasn't good, but it was better than III...

The Godfather Part II (The Roku Channel): I wish I had seen the first one more recently. I thought De Niro as young Vito was better than the Pacino part of the movie. I'm not a fan of these movies, but I'd kind of like to see the chronological TV version of them.

There's No Freaking Way I'll Be Your Lover! Unless… ~Next Shine~ (YouTube): I didn't really like the show, so why'd I watch the sequel?? I guess it was at least a little funny seeing an anime girl release her inner Tommy Dreamer. She'll take 'em both, she's hardcore.
January 14, 2026 at 7:20 PM
Bambi (Disney+): The first movie I ever saw at a theater, we also later owned it on VHS; I don't think we watched it very often, because I only have some general memories of what happens in it. It's not a very fun movie. Thumper and Flower have less screentime than I remembered...
January 13, 2026 at 3:08 AM
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – Season 2 (Hulu on Disney+): The excitement of Bleach's return has worn off. This season is filled with nothing but battles where characters continuously one-up each other with new random powers that become increasingly unbelievable.

WWE Best Pay-Per-View Matches 2009-2010 (WWE BD): Either whoever was compiling this set wasn't very good at their job or matches in WWE at this time just weren't very good. I thought that three matches here were worth watching: two midcard Mysterio matches and the HBK/Taker WrestleMania rematch.
