And so, as it must for all years, 1984 came. But instead instead of leaving, it crept into dark places and grew, awaited its time and grew some more, and forty years later it sprang out and shouted, “Here I am! Greatness!!” Some rallied around it. Some said, “It’s not so bad.” So the fight is on.

So many good books being written and published these days. Grateful, grateful to public libraries wa and librarians (including the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh) and indy publishers and bookstores (including Haymarket Books and Stay Gold Books) for helping is get our hands on books like these.

We are what we read, so let’s share book recommendations. This is my current stack from the library, each of which I recommend and will post about separately. Yet what strikes me as most important is the way they reinforce one another. How the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts.
