The severe ice rain event in Ontario has left many w/o power, cell service or internet. Be patient & kind to those working hard to restore power and those in the call centres. Crews are working hard in some dangers situations. They haven’t been able to access all areas because of fallen trees.

I just happened to be looking out the window and saw as a large tree branch crashed into a neighbour’s yard! It’s their tree and thankfully it didn’t hit their roof. I’m nervously eyeing their other trees that tower over my new shed. 😬 #BarrieON #ONStorm

Gravenhurst has declared a state of emergency due to yesterday’s snow fall and has activated the emergency operations centre to help coordinate the response. Sections of Hwy 11 are closed from Severn Bridge to just south of Hwy 6. Many other roads in cottage country are also bad.

The snow started coming down in Barrie around 9:30 AM this morning. We were lucky and escaped it yesterday. We’re in for continued snow this afternoon and it seems to be sticking to the ground. Be careful on the roads - take extra time and be cautious. Get your snow tires on if you haven’t yet.

Be sure and get your flu and COVID shots if you haven’t already. Those two vaccines don’t keep you from catching the viruses, but they do prevent severe illness and death!

For Ontario 🇨🇦 residents, there will be a test of the Alert Ready System sent out at 12:55 PM today. This testing is necessary to ensure that emergency notification systems work and authorities can advise you in the event of a real emergency. Your phone should alarm even if you turn the sound off.
