I’ve battled the kitchen fruit flies, but I haven’t had them in my compost bucket. I use a plastic twist top cat/dog kibble bucket. No smells (till u open it), no flies. I’m lazy, too, & wait till the bucket is pretty full before hauling it out. It holds 10 lbs of kibble, & has a gasket.

Frankie’s a cat who won’t be held, even at 15yo, but u can pet the hell out of her if she’s in a box.
