Reader, learner, aspiring family historian. A little knowledge is a light load to carry.
Got this back print from the framer today. “Joy,” by the amazing Christi Belcourt. I hung it in the kitchen so I could see joy every day. Goodness knows, we could use some of that. Art is such a comfort when things are crazy.

It’s sunny today! One thing I miss about not living in Saskatchewan is that Ontario winters are so dreary: cloudy, damp, icy. I know it’s not nice in -35° weather, but I really feel the lack of sun here. Been here since 1996, and still feel it. But today, I’m loving the sun.

Finding out details of my family heritage is hard work. This is Emilie McDougall, my 2nd great-grandmother. Her father was Scottish and her mother Métis. Her daughter Agnes, was my great-grandmother, who also married a Métis man. My grandmother rejected her heritage.

Not normally one for sharing food photos, but when my poached eggs turn out well, I'm always happy.

I put up a bird feeder recently. I love watching the chickadees and cardinals. It has also attracted a grey squirrel I have named Mr. Potter (villain from It's a Wonderful Life). I am becoming one of those people who battle squirrels.

Tree is up but not fully decorated. I think I need white lights in the living room all year long.

It's only December 6, but I know my top reads for 2024:

#5 Surrender, Bono. Make sure you listen on Audible. Hearing it read in his own voice is excellent.

Afternoon walk:

Colour: grey.

I have been learning to be more present in the moment. That means when I go for a walk, I don't stew about things. Rather, I pay attention to the things around me: the sound of cars and birds; the brisk wind on my face, and today, the feel of snow on my cheeks. So peaceful.

Today is the birthdate of LM Montgomery, November 30, 1874. One of the most fascinating women I've read about. So much more than her books; sad in many ways, flawed, but fascinating.

Claude, living the good life. Interesting how if my dogs did this, they'd be in trouble.
