Ah yes, Killraven - another from the Zardoz school of sci-fi fashion.

(Although I just checked and Zardoz came out 1 year AFTER Killraven’s 1st appearance!)

If you see this, quote with a robot that isn't from "Star Wars", "Star Trek", "Doctor Who", or "Transformers".

Finally, it has arrived! My favourite season, with every story an absolute belter.*

Also, fact fans: only the second season in Doctor Who's entire history to not feature a single returning monster or villain. (There are four in all: three from the classic era, and one from the modern era.)

We lost Marmalade four days ago.

After deciding to ditch his previous owners down the road to adopt us (they agreed – we didn't catnap him!), he spent 13 very contented years with us.

The last few days of sadness have finally taken a toll. Today I'm feeling the exhaustion deep in my bones.

For reasons I cannot fathom, I've had Peter Howell's Janissary Band from the 1983 Doctor Who – The Music soundtrack album stuck in my head for 2 days!

Sure, I played that album to death in 1983-4, but not in 20+ yrs. And I haven't watched Snakedance in ages.

This is how the Mara gets in, innit.

This is proper telly.

Sorry everyone in NSW. Unpack the car and cancel your family getaway. AI says this isn’t a long weekend.

Age yourself with a movie you saw in a cinema as a kid.

Now watching All the President’s Men because, of course.

TV series I’m still annoyed got cancelled before their time.

The Hour. Damn, I loved this show.

As both cover and story depict Batman foiling the plot by reading the comic which depicts Batman foiling the plot by … (best not think too hard about this) the villain has basically published his entire plan in a comic coming out just as the plan came into effect!

Criminal genius he ain’t!
September 9, 2025 at 7:29 AM
In the lead story – Peril of the Poison Rings – the villain is also a writer/artist who insanely writes up his criminal plots as superhero comics – including this plot to defeat Batman with a poison ring as a story in Batman’s own comic.

Superman races the Flash (again) on the cover to Flash 175, cover dated Dec 1967 and on sale from Oct 19th, 1967.

BUT … the following issue (176) came out the same day as issue 199 of Batman: Dec 5th!
September 9, 2025 at 7:29 AM
So far, all the comics were on sale simultaneously with Batman 199 – implying the issue Batman is after is also 199, with this same cover. PARADOX!

(BTW, the interior art also depicts the Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Hawkman and Superman issues.)

But we still have one cover to identify …
September 9, 2025 at 7:29 AM
Green Lantern issue 58 is also cover dated Jan 1968 and was on sale from Nov 22nd, 1967, to January 10th, 1968.

The only monthly comic on display, the Superman cover is from issue 203, cover dated Jan 1968, and on sale from Nov 2nd until Dec 13th, 1967.
September 9, 2025 at 7:29 AM
The Hawkman cover is issue 23, cover dated Jan 1968. A bi-monthly title, it was on sale from Oct 12th until Dec 20th, 1967.

Also bi-monthly, and also cover dated Jan 1968, the Atom cover is issue 34, on sale from Oct 3rd until Dec 6th, 1967.
September 9, 2025 at 7:29 AM
The Wonder Woman cover is issue 174, cover dated Feb 1968, same as this issue of Batman. It was on sale from Nov 7th, 1967, to Jan 3rd, 1968.

We can only see the top left corner of the Aquaman issue, but a bit of digging confirms it as issue 37 – also Feb 1968 and on sale from Nov 2nd to Jan 1st.

A new batch of comics has arrived at chez Kimota, including this wonderfully cheesy and meta Batman cover by Carmine Infantino, Murphy Anderson and Ira Schnapp.

Cover dated Feb 1968, it went on sale on Dec 5th, 1967.

But what about all the other comics shown on the cover? I’m glad you asked.

It never ceases to tickle me that Gary Oldman has played both of the two best - but also polar opposite - characters in all of spy fiction. Jackson Lamb in many ways is the anti-Smiley.
September 1, 2025 at 11:47 PM
Damn, this looks so mad I have to track this down!

That's the beauty of those What If ... comics. There are no rules. Continuity doesn't matter. Logic is out. They're just fandom fever dreams!

Like this piece of bonkers insanity. (Got my copy signed by Stan on his last visit to Australia.)

Goodbye, said Mr Benn.

They very occasionally appear in Coles in the imports section.

I also recently discovered I can get my fave Oxford marmalade from Amazon too instead of grabbing jars on visits to the UK.
It just feels faintly ridiculous to buy marmalade from what (to me at least) is an online bookstore.

It’s time! Finally!

It’s clobberin’ time!

Issue 10 of The Complete Fantastic Four was my last as we moved to Australia.

Thankfully, Yaffa had adopted a similar (albeit monthly) format for its B/W reprints - one new story, one silver age classic in chrono order each issue. I still remember getting my 1st Yaffa - issue 189 in November ‘77.
