Our right to protest is under attack. If Mandela, Gandhi or Fawcett took to the streets today, they could be jailed.

We must defend the right to protest – it’s how we’ve achieved justice & progress in Britain. A chilling sign of our times.

Powerful #BlackHistoryMonth drop-in in Parliament highlighting the fight to end caste discrimination & advance equality for all.

Important discussion led by @unison.org.uk, UNISON Black Members, @dawnbutlerbrent.bsky.social & many more on taking the anti-caste movement forward in the UK ✊🏾

The Renters’ Rights Act is now law - fantastic news for Liverpool! 🏘️

It ends Section 21 ‘no-fault’ evictions, introduces Awaab’s Law & a Decent Homes Standard, giving renters greater security, rights & protections.

A fairer deal & peace of mind for families across our city ❤️

Pleased to chair an APPG on Miscarriages of Justice meeting on Dr Lucy Welsh & Dr Amy Clarke’s research into experiences of accessing justice through the CCRC. It was a powerful & insightful discussion on what more must be done to remove barriers & deliver real reform.

Great show of solidarity with @rmtunion.bsky.social today ✊🏽

These unnecessary changes to the Skilled Worker visa will have a devastating impact - threatening job security, livelihoods & creating gaps in the workforce.

Hundreds of rail and Tube staff are at risk. This must be stopped immediately.

Today is World Mental Health Day - a day to highlight the importance of looking after our mental health and check in with your friends, family and colleagues 💜

Let’s remember: our mental health matters - not just today, but every day. It's ok not to be ok.

Always proud to host Labour Party Conference in my constituency & my home city.

Looking back on a great few days of passion, debate & solidarity in Liverpool ❤️

41 years on, the Cammell Laird 37 are still fighting for justice. I was honoured to speak at Labour Party Conference this week to call for their exoneration & for their names to be cleared.

Justice delayed is justice denied.

Alongside colleagues from across the House, I've written to the PM calling for the 2-child benefit cap to be abolished.

The evidence is now overwhelming - it entrenches poverty, punishes families for their circumstances & undermines the futures of thousands of children.
September 10, 2025 at 10:55 AM
The Poverty Strategy Commission is right in calling for the two-child benefit cap to be scrapped – a step that could lift 4m people out of poverty.

Instead, more families are being pushed into severe, sustained hardship, with even Victorian-era diseases returning.

Rain or shine, we’re out on the picket lines! 🌦️

Honoured to stand with @pcsunion.bsky.social members from the Parliamentary Security Department striking against attacks on their terms & conditions of employment ✊🏽

Great visit to Pagoda Arts to see their HAF summer programme. For years, they’ve brought children from all communities together through culture, creativity & history.

Wonderful to see them making animations, playing games & learning – services like this need support to thrive.

I’ve written to the PM demanding greater global protections for reporters.

At least 189 journalists have been killed in Gaza – many targeted for exposing Israel’s crimes. This is a war on truth. We must push for an international convention for the safety of media workers.

Proud to stand with comrades at this weekend’s Stand up to Racism counter protest.

Refugees are always welcome in Liverpool - the far-right is not.

We stand united against racism.

Since 2010, spending on youth services has been cut by 73%.

Strong local youth services are the bedrock of thriving communities - that's why we're backing young people across Britain.

✅ More youth services
✅ Real-world opportunities
✅ Skills for life & work

Fantastic to see so many young people in Liverpool Riverside taking part in the @dofe.org award.

A record breaking number of young people – 572,000 – took part in a DofE last year, contributing over 5 million volunteering hours to their communities.

Palestine Action should not have been listed to be proscribed alongside two violent Neo-Nazi groups.

Last night, I voted against this cynical manipulation of parliamentary procedure. We must not weaponise terror laws to criminalise protest.

Excellent visit to University of Liverpool Management School this morning for a roundtable with the team.

Grateful for the thoughtful discussions on Liverpool City Region’s economic challenges & how we can better support young people & local businesses to thrive.

I’m one of 108 Labour MPs backing a Reasoned Amendment to oppose the Universal Credit & PIP Bill.

Our concerns have been ignored, along with those of disabled people & charities. These damaging cuts must be reconsidered. I didn’t come into politics to punish the most vulnerable.
June 24, 2025 at 9:36 AM
Disabled people deserve dignity, not cuts.

We’re standing united and voting NO to cruel disability benefit cuts ✊🏽
