One day I will share how this was the worst experience of my life. But it's not safe to do so right now.

Been chatting with folks who've lost their jobs and several said it would be nice to learn about how to get into consulting work. So I said I could put something together on that! Webinar next Thursday at 1pm eastern. (Thanks AEFP, APPAM, NCME, & SREE!)

I'm wrapping up my first semester teaching an undergraduate class. I've been advised to create my own class evaluation survey to gather more open-ended responses. As someone entering the academic market this year, what questions should I ask my students?

I've seen folks say, "We survived the first Trump administration," and I remind them that yes, "we" did, but also, a million Americans died in part because of Trump's inept COVID response. I was *worse* than many well-insulated folks remember, and this run, they are doubling down on destruction.
We’re only two months in, & they’re cancelling research into pediatric brain cancer. They’re deporting US kids with brain cancer. They’re putting millions at risk of malaria, TB, & polio.

I for one will never forgive or forget those who said ‘it won’t be that bad’.

Firing thousands of people and telling folks to buy a T*lsa is nasty business.

When people want to talk to me about the backlash against US higher ed but don't want to mention racism, this is one of the key reasons I become very annoyed

(Also the data used to create this post had its contract canceled this month so are won't be able to track things like this in the future)

Has anyone tried turning this year off and then back on?

I usually work through the breaks, but this year, I'm committing to unplugging for at least 95% of the break. I've finished a dissertation, defended, graduated, quit a FT job while starting another job (post doc), moved across the country, and hit the ground running doing more research and writing.

As someone who was born in NC and who has lived her whole life in the South, my brain can't understand why it won't stop snowing in MI. 😂🥶

When people ask me why I don't care about my h-index, citations, etc., I point out that racism means that's a losing game. Cause this ain't just in economics.

One frustrating thing about studying race is people denying obvious truths to your face.
