I've been out sampling water from the local river this morning for the EarthWatch Great UK WaterBlitz. My results indicate poor ecological status which isn't really surprising considering how often sewage gets dumped in to it from the sewage works upstream […]

A river which is murkey brown-green in colour lined with trees and vegetation A chart showing nitrate levels represented by pink boxes going from medium pink showing 2.0 NO3 mg per Litre up to intense pink showing 10 NO3 mg per litre. There is a plastic vial containing pink liquid taken from the river water mixed with reagent. The water is dyed pink at a level between the 5.0 mg and 10 mg boxes. A chart showing phosphates on the lower level and nitrates on the upper level. This image is focussing on the phosphates and they grade from pale pink showing 0.1 mg per litre up to darker pink at 0.5 mg per litre. There is a clear plastic vial containing water dyed pink by the reagent. It is indicating a phosphate level between 0.1 mg per litre and 0.2 mg per litre and the text shows that this is moderate nutrient concentrations.

This is the second bee. You can see her bee butt jiggling as she’s cleaning the pollen off her upper body and legs and pushing it down to back of her body

More of my little bee buddies. This shows one of them leaving and then you can see the other bee in the hole. This is clearly not a nest, they seem to be using it as a safe space to clean themselves of pollen and re-pack it. The second video shows this more clearly
