If only there weren't multiple coal ships marring the horizon.
Pic taken today of a Lake Macquarie NSW beach. In the foreground there's dense green scrub. The sea is flat with small white waves flowing into shore. In the shallows, the water is clear, bright blue - it gets darker in deep water. The top 3rd of the pic is a cloudless blue sky.

Not a snake considered common on the Central Coast but actually iNat has quite a few records.

Photo is of a large (60mm) moth resting on timber boards. The moth is mostly fawn with black and grey patterning on body and wings. It has 2 strong black stripes on the top of its head. The same moth with my rough looking hands holding a tape measure.

A stunning, chubby caterpillar found in my garden this evening while hosing at the end of a hot day.
Guessing it's some sort of hawk moth but I'm not really sure.

A very chubby caterpillar. It's about 8cm long with jagged creamy yellow, black and white stripes and a pronounced 'horn'. It's on a bed of mulch and bright green ground cover.

We've just had a very dramatic little hail storm.
The pics don't do the colour of the sky justice - it's glowing yellow!

Eastern bluetongue lizard. This one is at least 30cm long.

An Australian bluetongue lizard is sunning itself on a bed of eucalyptus mulch. There are rocks to its right, a young Vanilla lily to its left and a young Pattersonia (native iris) just behind it. It's at least 30cms long.

I don't have 4 legged friends but here's a Currawong just doing its own thing in the garden.

Grevillea sericea- flowering beautifully atm.
Photo of a small Grevillea sericea - endemic to coastal Lake Macquarie NSW but growing in my garden here. It has fine mid dark green foliage, red new stems and small flowers that can be pale pink through to burgundy. Flowers on this plant are almost candy pink.

The delicate arm of an octopus, tentacles showing. Found in a small rock pool - the water is very clear, there is tan coloured ferny seaweed, bright green sea lettuce and a carpet of sea smoothed pebbles, sea shells and bits of purple coral. Low tide rock pool. One large stone looks like it's covered in khaki moss and at one end, clusters of small ribbon weed striped neon blue/green. Low tide rock pool. The left hand side of the pic is covered in coarse sand and small stones, the right side shows smooth cream, yellow to orange rock. There are small clusters of fine maroon weed and in the centre of the pic, hovering over the smooth rock is a pretty toadfish.

There are lots of Pterostylis orchid species popping up in Wallarah National Park but I only know of one tiny patch where Corybus pruinosis grows. A tiny, delicate orchid that I watch for each winter.

Same coastal headland two weeks apart and two very different species. The Superb fairy-wren was stealing food from spider webs in the little pocket Caves. The Australian ravens were enjoying a meal of crab.

Lazy Saturday morning accompanied by a chorus of pied butcherbirds.
Pic shows high up branches of two Norfolk Island Pines backed by a deep blue winter sky. In the bottom left and (almost) centre top of the pic you can see two Pied Butcherbirds. Pied Butcherbirds are medium sized, Australian, black and white birds with glorious voices. Unseen, the pair in the tree to the right of the pic.
