To Photograph is to Learn How to Die, by Tim Carpenter, might be the most magical #photography book I’ve ever read, and it doesn’t contain a single photo. Huge thanks to @flakphoto.news for bringing it to my attention. Spreads like this one cook my noodle for days

I wanted to tell you. I knew the words to say. But my timing was off, and I didn't know how to come back to it. My own awkwardness was the barrier, I put it there. I wish I'd recognized in the moment how you'd forgive my stumbling, it'd have given me courage.

I loved this portion of the interview with Emmet Gowin in Aperture No. 256. Such a lovely description of intimacy in photography

The family farmhouse. Never stepped foot in it once to be honest. By the time I knew what it was, it was some other family's. But we'd speed past it regularly, headed to town.

"What was it like?", I'd ask
"Hard". Didn't matter who I asked, that was always the answer.

I was fierce. And untamed. Feral. I was impatient to reach my potential, and completely oblivious as to what that potential was. We, my friends and I, found our bond in this raucous pursuit.

There are secret truths stored in our bones, too precious to pass our lips

Many we’re born with. Still more we absorb with 1,000 daily fractures. Life’s path reveals the wisdom embedded within ourselves in challenging moments of profundity. Only at the xroads do we learn what we know. #photography

I could reach you but not touch you. Cover but not hold you. I learned to shed my leaves. I learned to warm you by covering less of me. And forgive me when I stumble. Forgive me when I swaddle. I'm learning this new warmth, without my usual furs. #photography

And then I was overcome. The anticipation was so powerful. I'd have looked away, if I had the strength. So small I was, to bear such a force. And then it was over. #photography
