I've done my holiday research and reached this conclusion: the most important policy goal needed to achieve European prosperity is to mobilise EU savings towards high equity share pension investments.

#EU commission wants to raise its 7 year budget. I'd support it if they can create a legit 28th regime that's supported by startups. Competitiveness can be achieved without additional spending

If this is real, geez
NATO boss Rutte (fmr Dutch PM) sends app to Trump, who promptly publishes it.

"Wow, your bombing of Iran was great; it makes the world a safer place!"

Straight from The Hague, formerly known as the International City of Peace and Justice. Awkward.

Can no longer buy pillows from my preferred shop in the UK and have them sent to Ireland. Brexit was dumb, but so is not making trade cheaper and easier now

Russia has 10% the GDP and 30% the population of the EU. There is no reason we can't afford to maintain our own defense. And if we do, we should buy European weapons. It's good economic stimulus and R&D

One of the key proposals of the Mario Draghi report on #EU competitiveness is to close the "skills gap". This seems like a practical and sensible recommendation to me. I'm going to explore what the commission says about it and either find cause for hope, or discover a quagmire of jargon. A slow 🧵:

I have a lot of time for optimism about Europe
There’s so much pessimism around the European economy and markets these days that the bar is set very low for upside surprises. Delighted to make my FT debut with this column on what could go right for Europe in 2025

Could 2025 be the year when Europe surprises investors positively?
Amid much pessimism there are also several things that may well lift the mood

In coming decades, Europe is likely to have higher energy costs than other regions due to low solar irradiation. It won't be able to leverage cheap solar as effectively as many others will. How much will it matter?
