Just some rando talking about stuff. Probably comics, Doctor Who, Star Trek or other things I'm a fan of...
Not convinced he really hates socking spirits.

Rewatched it recently for the first time since I rented it on VHS back in the day. It's a fun film.

Iirc, the Blue Monkey was supposed to be tied to one of the kids talking about a nightmare they had, and the name gets applied to the insects later but the scene got cut.

I like to think if this happens it's because I rewatched the film on Sunday.

They've tried to keep "Good Girl Art" style from the 40s & 50s going, so the books can be very fanservicey. Bill Black (who's Paragon & AC comics revived Ms. Victory) also self-published a low print-run alternate universe version of his characters (where they get disrobed a lot).

This fills me with trepidation.

I kinda think any division is going to be arbitrary, regardless of where you divide it. There's going to be things on either side that don't really fit

If it helps, Cat Girl was more or less a goddess. IIRC in universe she was the inspiration for the Sphynx. So maybe world calamity follows if Jaguar isnt careful...?

Yeah until i had a smartphone I bought a few gold key books multiple times because I didn't know the number and didn't recognize the cover only to find I'd bought it before.

I'd sell them back which begs the question if I ever bought a duplicate issue I'd sold back to the store... 🤔

I'm working on few Gold Key series. They're fun other than the lack of cover numbers! 😀

My mom loved Dark Shadows so I had a few comics as a kid. I'm trying to get a full run.

As always the painted covers Gold Key did really look great.

Swamp Thing is awesome!

For Halloween #TopShelfFriday I'll go with a recent pick-up of a series I'm slowly collecting... #comics #comicsky #darkshadows

He's just going to point out that his trunks are modest compared to his teammate Namor!

Yeah, this is one of mine too.

I'm not sure I'd count Gold Key as bottom of the barrel, though. They were one of the last GA publishers to close 'so far' (1933-84), they said 'thanks, but no thanks' to the CCA, & tried to open new markets in the 70s. Parent company Western was successful into the 1990s.

Jesse Santos is great. And unlike some of Gold Key's other cover artists who strictly painted covers, like George Wilson, Santos did interiors as well. Together the covers are often as attractive and unusual now as they were then. And Santos interiors as solid as his covers.

If I had to guess, licensor approval played big hand in this.

Dunno, seems like it's always a cute kid or an animal, regardless of whether the video was funny. Figure the audience is voting fir 'awww' rather than 'hahaha'.

Is she seen as a fad now? INTERVIEW certainly has more to it than cultural zeitgeist. But I don't have a broad view of her work as I've only read Interview, Lestat and Ramses the Damned/Mummy (which was an effective brisk novel with another less effective novel tacked on the back of it, imo)

Sort of the "I don't want it good, I want it Tuesday" thinking that can permeate commercial art.

I'm so intrigued by old magazine headlines.

Dale Robertson was a TV Cowboy IMO (Jim Hardie in Tales of Wells Fargo should count even if he was technically an investigator, is very much in the Western Cowboy Hero mode), so just wonder what the 'scorn' is!
