Cover to Paragon Golden-Age Greats, a prozine from 1971 from Bill Black (who'd later found AC Comics and publish a series of reprints under the Golden-Age Greats name). A figure (possibly the Avenger) leaps down and punches a mutated monster (a bit like the Metaluna Mutant from THIS ISLAND EARTH) who is attacking Golden Age Hawkgirl. In glass cases Golden Age Green Lantern, Flash, Starman, Batman, Atom, Dr. Fate and Dr. Midnight are helpless. The action appears to be in a stone dungeon; steps in the background lead into darkness.

George Wilson's painted cover Dark Shadows #14, a continuation of the Dan Curtis tv show from Gold Key (Western publishing's comic line) Barnabas Collins - carrying his signature cane and in a dark suit and coat - is being sucked through a painting on a Stormy night as 4 figures in the painting look out. The figures appear to be from the 1700s by attire. One is a white haired man in a dark suit, one a younger man in a blue suit. A woman in a maroon or purple dress stands next to him. Between her and the older man, a woman in a green dress is seated. Text in lower right corner reads "The spirit that haunts a painting will not rest -- until Barnabas Collins perishes!" Cross-overs that should have happened, but they didn't:

Tatsuo Yoshida's SPEED RACER (1967) and Gerry Anderson & Reg Hill's SUPERCAR (1961).

While I'm sure a story could be concocted for why the characters meet, the real joy would be seeing Chim-Chim and Mitch run roughshod over the proceedings.

Gary Collins is pretty good as the psychic detective, but I'm surprised you missed at least partially seeing the series when they edited down the episodes to a half-hour and tacked them onto the syndicated NIGHT GALLERY package.

#TopShelfFriday Madhouse #95 - when Archie (as Red Circle) briefly tested the waters during the 70s horror revival. Picked up the numbering from humor title "Madhouse Glads" & in 3 issues became humor "Mad House Comics".

A companion title-Red Circle Sorcery lasted a bit longer. #comicsky #comics
