A lot of tech people seem to want to solve social problems through a purely technical lens.

I'll just reiterate my mantra that nothing is written in stone, and that fancy technologies arent worth anything if they make for bad experiences for people. if the tech we've made isn't good enough, we'll work on it. it'll take time, but that's the job.

Oh this is awesome. I love the AltTextUtil bot. Super handy for images that contain a lot of text, where it would be a huge pain to transcribe them.
Yes! The @alt-text.bsky.social bot is now deployed on EC2. It's adapted from a bot called AltTextUtil that was built for Twitter by Hannah Kolbeck. It uses the Google Vision API to OCR text from images as a backup for when folks don't write alt text. https://github.com/hs4man21/bluesky-alt-text-ocr

Since we're on a new platform I need to shout this out again: Outer Wilds is one of the best, if not the best, games ever made. I wish I could experience it all over again but there's no replicating that first experience of learning the secret of the universe anymore :(

The thing I miss the most from Twitter would be the Translate Tweet (and Bio) feature. It’s super hard for me to understand Japanese or other non-English posts now 🥲
