This is how Robert McCammon's Swan Song started...

... just sayin'.

Ada Hoffmann's Outside trilogy is fantastic and full of neurodivergent characters.

I don't care about what orcs are getting up to. Just read the best book about orcs ever written and you will feel the same.

Darkome by Hannu Rajaniemi

Biohacking techno-thriller set in the not so impossibly distant future. Anything new by him is a reason to head to your favorite local bookseller and grab a copy.

The Dandelion Dynasty by Ken Liu

See other threads for more. Do not miss this epic that begins with The Grace of Kings and has some of my new all time favorite characters.

Puzzleheart by Jenn Reese

Middle grade with neurodivergent characters. Reese isn't afraid to let the kids deal with their own troubles which seems rarer in today's stories. Can they manage to figure things out when the house seems determined to stop them from putting their family back together?

The Brides of High Hill by Nghi Vo

The latest in The Singing Hills cycle of novellas featuring the charming Cleric Chih. What begins as a simple, straight forward tale becomes something else entirely by the end.

The Truth of the Aleke by Moses Ose Utomi

Brilliant novella series set in a dangerous world where survival means uncovering the truth deliberately hidden away from the scattered population. If you have not read his work before, grab this series.

Long Live Evil by Sara Rees Brennan

Surprising and fun! Pick it up for the ballroom scene if nothing else. Woman transplanted from our world to a fantasy world of stories she read. Hilarious and villainous meta shenanigans ensue. What happens when you mess with the narrative and it messes back.

Exordia by Seth Dickinson. Tom Clancy-ish scifi debut novel with a delightfully savage and humorous alien named Ssrin and Dickinson's inimitable worldbuilding mainly set in Kurdistan.

98 books this year feels pretty good!
Best of the year thread here in no particular order. 💙📚👀

The Glass Box by J. Michael Straczynski

"Boots on the ground, bodies in the way." Timely, prescient, important, necessary.

The first computer I ever used was a Commodore PET... I volunteered in the library to upload the monthly tapes we would get in and play Miner.

This one gets one of my favorite quotes with it that should spoil nothing about this alt-history SFF love letter to cinema.

@catvalente.bsky.social sure has a way with words. ❤️
