Capital of the Achaemenid Persian Empire. This empire was formed by Cyrus the great and lasted from 550BCE until 330BCE. The first large multicultural empire spanning across 3 continents. The Macedonians, who eventually usurped the Persians, were just one of the many subjects within its borders.

The city of Cahokia located by St. Louis thrived until the late 14th century. This city was one of many similar villages sprawling the Mississippi River Valley from St. Paul to New Orleans. A complex Native American society that traded in copper, Hides, art, tools all over North and Central America.

Belisarius truly deserves the title "The Last Roman". Even though Rome didn't fall till 900 years after his death this is still the best way imo to get into Medieval Roman History. The culture is fascinating. The stories are reminiscent of Herodotus. I'm blessed to own a cloth-bound copy of this.
