In January 2025, US Customs and Border Protection detected 29,000 attempted illegal border crossings — 76.6% fewer than in January 2024.
Along the US-Mexico border, the San Diego sector saw the most attempts, while the Tucson sector had the largest decline with crossings down 90.7% year-over-year.
