I use + shaped fiducials for helping align stencils for manual paste printing. They get cut through the stencil and give me some standard targets for aligning the stencil with.

We have just started down the path of putting requirements into markdown in our code at "day job". It's looking like we will be writing some sort of tooling to help with numbering reqs and doing traceability to get it all hooked up though.

I can't really tell from the photo but do the Aisler ones have a little more matte finish to them as well?

One of the local shops here uses a green that is more matte than jlc uses and I really like it since it doesn't reflect light from my microscope as bad when soldering/inspecting.

This would be a fun board to do on a livestream. Let me know what you want on it!

Seconding Dell ultrasharp monitors. They have been incredibly reliable for us and the panel quality and calibration from the factory is very good.

I have had some good results basically using chatgpt to rubber duck a bug. I don't really use the answers verbatim at all but sometimes it throws out some idea that actually gives me a thread to run down.

LUCI has been shipping rust on embedded linux for several years. We have been using rust in test/mfg firmware for several years and this year we will ship rust in the production firmware for the first time. www.luci.com

Headline is pretty misleading too. They only bought the automotive ethernet group.

I am hopeful that this will make these parts more available. I took a look at the Brightlane parts and everything is "talk to sales" from Marvell.

Just need to point them to Oxide's post on transparent interfaces rfd.shared.oxide.computer/rfd/0552

That almost seems like an improvement from when I last looked into it. Back then, it was "talk to this one other company that can help you with drivers"

Be careful with the block diagram. Last I checked on these parts, there were several blocks that did not have any software support in their SDK.

Seeing a small hydro generator system automatically synchronize by moving a deflector in and out of the stream of water hitting the turbine wheel was one of the highlights of my field session class.

In one of my electrical engineering lab classes, we hand synchronized generators with the grid using blinking lights and a switch. It really can be done with very little technology though most generators do auto synchronize.

My project list right now is 50/50 end projects and tools. I've been noodling on a battery powered reflow oven and an open source impedance analyzer vs actually building the ethernet switch and video processing fpga that I want.

I will also admit that the MSP430 with all of its limitations was absolutely not the best choice for this application and having a lot more memory and flash would have saved me quite a bit of time at various points in the design.
March 14, 2025 at 4:42 PM
That makes sense, 16-bit definitely has some advantages for memory usage. We have a couple large buffers (USB and a data buffer) that use about half the RAM so I only have about 2K that's really available for general stuff.

I've fit a ton of functionality into 24K/4K MSP430s using C so this doesn't seem too constrained based on the peripheral set.
I'm more confused by their video for these that shows a bunch of applications (headphones, fitness monitors) where I think you would need BLE which this doesn't have.
