Sadly for the country, this is what 75% of people think - and so any real world actual tax rise is opposed by most people because it might affect *them*!

Because politicians have spent decades pretending that good services *and* low taxes are possible.

The country, and in particular its bigger cities, are safer for the public than ever before.

Don't believe the Tory/Reform lie machine.
September 4, 2025 at 5:23 PM
Hard to argue with this - other than to add "government ministers, the PM, and the PMs spokesperson" to "journalists".

Time for the 3rd test!

Come on you Lions!!!

From mid May this week.

This is the most depressing.

Reform support increasing in every demographic.

The only solution is for the government to fix the NHS and start to fix housing.

Wasting political capital on hitting poor pensioners and PIP claimants seems bonkers.

Well, today's the start of my favourite sporting event - the #LionsTour.

i am very excited.

I've got my old Lions jersey on early!

Yup.

Private Eye had a thing on this.

Seems to have been a deliberate Meta change.
June 18, 2025 at 10:11 AM
The most Telegraph story ever.
May 25, 2025 at 10:52 AM
Others have said it, but this Observer push for Clegg's involvement is bonkers.

Hardly an auspicious start for Tortoise run Observer.

Halfway on my morning cycle!

By contrast, in 1929, the Dow dropped by 50% in a little more than a month, and eventually (at the nadir in 1932) by **89%** (from it's peak in August 1929).
April 4, 2025 at 4:02 PM
Trump is an idiot, and the tariffs policy is economically idiotic for a developed modern economy, but a little realism - the Dow is back to where it was August/September last year.

View of the Somerset levels from All Saints in Langport when flooded (November 2023), and today (when not!).

Reminds me of this

Imagine for a second being non-white and sending your kids to the school where this person is head - sending your kids to a school where the head doesn't believe they are or can be English.

I'm lost for words.

She's a joke.
February 28, 2025 at 1:22 PM
This is only part of the story.

Young people are opting for more extreme politics, yes.

But the really interesting question (for which I don't have an answer) is why the gender split on which end of the horseshoe they opt for is so significant.
February 24, 2025 at 4:54 PM
This is from The Times. The Times.

She's screwed.
February 13, 2025 at 11:19 AM
And this is why.

Business investment stopped growing after the Brexit vote.

And we are all now living with the consequences of that - low/no growth, so stagnant wages, falling tax revenues and underfunding of public services.
January 31, 2025 at 7:59 AM
I mean, really, if looking at this doesn't tell you what by far the biggest issue facing our economy is, i don't know what to say.

Something happened in 2015/2016 - any ideas?
January 30, 2025 at 3:43 PM
This is spot on @samfr.bsky.social - it's a big issue.

Blair's government had people who were so in tune with him that they were able to do this.

Starmer will need to find them.
December 22, 2024 at 11:15 AM
This quote from Badenoch is just weird - "lunch is for wimps" ?!?!?!

It's like something from an 80's film about coked up executives.

The *evidence* showing that working like this leads to lower worker satisfaction and lower productivity are ignored in favour of vibes.

Pitiful.
December 12, 2024 at 9:33 AM
Wha...?

(Again the latest PrivateEye)
November 22, 2024 at 6:53 PM
I wish Labour ministers would not bring in yesteryear's cronies.

It's stuff like this that causes the public to think it's a corrupt swamp.

And reading this from PrivateEye about Milburn's appointment by Streeting, I think they might have a point!
