Official government discrimination encourages *private* discrimination, as surely as night follows day.
Fox News' Will Cain: "I’m sure there are very honorable law-abiding upstanding citizens and contributors from the Somali community here in the United States, BUT..."

He goes on to say "we aren’t going to pretend here that all cultures are of equal value or the same."

An entire room full of powerful old white people smiling and laughing as the president dehumanizes black immigrants and the first black president.

Just fucking pathetic.
Trump, continued: "What the Somalian people have done to Minnesota is not even believable. It’s not even believable. And a lot of it starts with the governor. A lot of it starts with Barack HUSSEIN Obama, because that’s when people started coming in... They want to kiss our country good night."

Sadism is central to Trump-MAGA politics, and it's getting worse:

*Hegseth tweets vile cartoon on bombings
*Megyn Kelly wants bombing victims to "bleed"
*Sick new WH video glorifies migrant suffering

On the pod, @paulwaldman.bsky.social and I go deep on sadism/MAGA:

Trump Tirades at Media Darken as MAGA Bloodlust on Bombings Boils Over
As Trump and MAGA hit new levels of depravity on his boat bombings and anti-immigrant crackdown, the writer of a piece connecting these dots discusses the centrality of sadism to Trump-MAGA politics.

Rand Paul: "Secretary Hegseth said he had no knowledge of this and it did not happen. It was fake news. It didn't happen. And then the next day, from the podium of the WH, they're saying it did happen. So either he was lying to us on Sunday or he's incompetent and didn't know what had happened."

This is a rare acknowledgment — from a cabinet member — on the downsides of deportations.

@cnbc.com
Lutnick: "Remember, as you deport people, that's going to suppress private job numbers of small businesses. But they'll rebalance and regrow."

Current US Policy:

If you’re suspected of trafficking a small amount of drugs with no evidence, we will murder you, but if you’re convicted of trafficking an enormous amount of drugs with copious evidence, we will pardon you. Because we are currently a very stupid country.

This prick ripped off regular Americans, he stole millions from middle class/working class folks. And Trump pardons him. Don’t ever again tell me Trump gives a flying fuck about middle class folks. He never has.
NEW: The commutation Trump issued to David Gentile wipes away all further fines & restitution.

Gentile had been sentenced to 7 years for his role in a $1.6B scheme that defrauded thousands of investors.

Prosecutors had been seeking $15.5M in forfeiture.

Bad news for Hegseth, it turns out the Pentagon is a big bureaucracy filled with people who got there because they know how to fight bureaucratic battles and they will wait for you to lie about something then leak details about it. Who knew?
A most important question on the Sept. 2 double-tap strike is who had "target engagement authority" (TEA).

Wall Street Journal:

"A Defense Department official ... said Hegseth was the 'target engagement authority,' the key figure who authorized the strike."

Trump’s claim he can order strikes on foreign civilians is unconstitutional

Nowhere in the Constitution is he given this power, it's a violation of multiple US laws, and there is no precedent in American history

1. Jared Kushner's trip to Moscow yesterday was not just unethical; it was illegal.

You cannot accept tens of millions of dollars from foreign governments and simultaneously conduct high-level diplomacy for the federal government.

It says it right in the Constitution.
Kushner’s Moscow mission wasn’t just corrupt. It was unconstitutional.
Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law, has been traveling the world to participate in high-stakes foreign policy negotiations on behalf of the president.

Congressman Henry Cuellar was indicted for money laundering, bribery, and conspiracy, allegedly taking about $600,000, mostly from Azerbaijan, to influence U.S. policy.

President Donald Trump pardoned Cuellar, because Trump supports money laundering, bribery, and conspiracy.
Trump announces a pardon of Henry Cuellar: "I am hereby announcing my full and unconditional PARDON of beloved Texas Congressman Henry Cuellar, and Imelda. Henry, I don’t know you, but you can sleep well tonight — Your nightmare is finally over!"
