I'm more concerned with replacing basic domain skills with median domain skills. The nature of training seems unlikely to get models much beyond "pretty good", but if humans don't get opportunities to be bad at things, they will never become experts.

There's a lot of this reporting putting layoffs next to talking about AI, implying that the layoffs are *because of* AI without actually providing evidence of that link. Tech hiring has cycles, and AI is a convenient excuse for layoffs, but I'm not convinced it's causal

I've definitely commented on deals with audible, and particularly how it affects audiobooks going to libraries - I think it was like a year before there were any copies of Starter Villain available in the Boston regional library network (via Libby)

Hot take: the enshitification of everything controlled by enormous businesses like CVS, petty theft leading to things getting locked up, and fascism running amok / very serious things are all structurally the same thing.
