A good archive piece. It captures the early rhetoric of the project before its actual incentives for the interviewee became clear.

Reading this now highlights the distance between intentions and the current outcome. The interview promised a genre shift; the results show something far narrower.

Question: We all know about how Robert E. Howard would put in scenes of girl-on-girl bondage in his stories to get Margaret Brundage to do it as covers, but was any of that discussed openly in Weird Tales, whether condemnatory or in coded language of approval from readers?

A friend illustrated my previous story for the magazine "Storm God over Sin City," and as a favour, I said I'd write a story featuring things he likes to draw. His answer? "Skulls and girls with guns" so I did. Ironically due to publishing schedules, this will not have his art for this one, alas.
