The second and final part of my historical swashbuckler "Death from the Steppe!" is now out!

It involves a dread secret hidden in an abandoned Spanish fort and how it entangles our hero with Cossack marauders sent over from the Russian empire.

Part 1 of my Zorro homage is now available to read from @cliffhangermag.bsky.social, written for an anthology that fell through, and featuring an off-brand version of the character from a now-public-domain radio show. Glad it has finally found a home.

Well ordered my Halloween costume, evil wizard-style hooded robes, which means I am halfway to becoming a dungeon synth musician.

Technically Hindu mythology, but if a Soviet precursor to Gennady Tartakovsky portraying Kali riding a lion while bearing axe and spear to take on a giant bull-headed demon while a modern badass classical music cue plays isn't sword & sorcery, then I don't know what is.

Soon to be available through Bronze Knuckles Magazine, a tale of Vegas showgirls, a "men's magazine" mogul, and the revenge of a masked supervillain.

Think of it as Die Hard at the Playboy mansion starring Lili St. Cyr with a machine gun.

Seriously, check out Terence Stamp in Federico Fellini's VERY loose adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's "Toby Dammit/Never Bet the Devil Your Head" for SPIRITS OF THE DEAD.

LSD, Cocaine, existential despair and Mario Bava concentrated into an absolute nightmarish segment.

RIP Terence Stamp. General Zod, the Limey, Willie Garvin in MODESTY BLAISE, and my personal favourite: burnout actor Toby Dammit going insane in Federico Fellini's very VERY loose adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's "Never Bet The Devil Your Head" in SPIRITS OF THE DEAD.

Deryni Rising by Katherine Kurtz or How to Suppress Women’a Writing – The Fantasy Edition
I'm over at Galactic Journey again - for the second time this month and a third article is coming later this month, which must be a new record for me - to talk about Deryni Rising by Katherine Kurtz, a novel which was incredibly influential and yet isn't remembered nearly as well as it should be. For the actual review, head over to Galactic Journey. If you want to know why this novel was so influential - which I obviously couldn't discuss from the 1970 POV of Galactic Journey…

Saw a sub call for a retro 50s B-Movie anthology. I think it will be very hard to top Norman Partridge's Anthology IT CAME FROM THE DRIVE-IN. Just the story titles alone, you can't beat for hitting that trash vibe perfectly.

Another Sword & Sorcery thread:

The interesting legacy of Robert Jordan's Conan novels is that, despite not being well-regarded by Conan fans and Wheel of Time fans being lukewarm at best, it was due to his WOT fame that Rebellion apparently bought the Conan IP on a whim in the early 2000s. (1/?)
