Made a thread of this, so it's easier to read

I moved from philosophy to psychology in 2018. In philosophy these kinds of arguments & debates are what you're trained for & do. It was a culture shock when I arrived in a psych dept. Critique, debate & argument were depicted as rude & undermining.

A few thoughts on academic civility, the paradigm ceasefire, and the challenge posed to critical social psychology by the misdiagnosis of the replicability crisis.

Based on the idea that the Harré quote below would be seen as terribly poor form if uttered by a prominent social psychologist today.
“Experiments are worse than worthless since by breaking up the structure of social action they destroy the phenomena under study.”

Don’t hold back, Rom, tell us what you really think!

This compelling (but wrong/daft) assertion is based on #communication myth rather than how we actually talk 🧐

And asking "how are you" can even save lives...
