What if you streamed your new album via your website and could earn 22x more than uploading it to Spotify?

I've been analysing the potential of a direct music distribution strategy using Google and Meta retargeting pixels to earn more than what Spotify pays out. The results are pretty interesting.🧵

Music artists:
When you consider a premium tier for fans on whatever platform you choose (such as Patreon or @fancircles.com) here’s the most important thing you must do.

Make subscriptions yearly. Not monthly.

$100,000 from 1,000 fans a year? Does that sound difficult? Want to know how to make it possible?

Superfan apps. Yep, it's the latest buzzword in the #music industry, but what are #superfan apps and how do you get in on the action?

People are exploiting #Spotify ’s playlist descriptions to help with their SEO and to help spread Malware🎵

How?
Spotify has a strong SEO reputation and pages are ranked highly, making it great for backlinks.
I’ve found 50 links to #malware & other dodgy pirated software in playlists descriptions.

Are streaming platforms really helping artists?
No

The music industry followed a simple cycle: radio played songs, listeners tuned in, fans bought music. That cycle is broken

We need to measure fans, not listeners

Streaming is great, but streaming networks don’t work for artists.
