All cops are bastards. Trans rights are human rights. Black lives matter. I may not live up to my ideals, but that doesn't mean I don't hold them.
The government here in the UK mainly seem to be huffing some high-grade copium that if they rebuild the Varsity Line between Oxford and Cambridge it'll form some sort of AI supercorridor that will rescue the economy.

tbh with how many times I've seen random Discord users post a crypto scam out of nowhere I can hardly blame anyone for wanting to set up two-factor authentication regardless of how frivolous the platform is.

In the game, sure, but you couldn't throw a rock and not hit someone with a copy of the Prima guide. Guides were made with the input of the publisher; while accuracy wasn't something the game told you about, it was something they wanted us to know, and a 1/256 chance of missing wasn't included.

I only know of MuseScore.

It's (supposed to be) a rhetorical device. They said "they suck (the search engines)" twice at the end of two consecutive ideas, then the final idea concludes with "you suck".

I particularly like that they linked a search result on a website which requires signing up to use the search. Kinda undermines the "taking away human freedoms is obsolete" bit.

If memory serves, the thing that got me into conlanging was practicing noun declensions on the names of my parents' cats and going "y'know, there's no reason these have to be the only cases, I could make my _own_ language with different ones".

I kinda want a shield wall singing Do You Hear The People Sing now. It seems appropriate.

I wonder how this extends to 3D. A lot of games have an out-of-bounds void which you can fall into under the influence of gravity, but in Panzer Dragoon Saga's Zoah if you get out-of-bounds you can walk out into the wilderness until the texture wraps around and you can see the footprint of the town.

It would make sense for that to show up in the metrics as "premieres do badly", which multiple Youtube people have mentioned at this point. (People also say videos do better if you change the title after uploading, which might explain the turnaround in the Mario Kart World video's fortunes.)
November 17, 2025 at 5:10 PM
This is also how I behave. Jumping into a premiere after it's started tries to sync you up with everyone else so I have to fight with the player to watch the beginning; I'd rather just wait for the premiere to end so I can watch the video from the beginning normally.

LLMs are just an evolution of autocorrect technology, and the only reason anyone tolerates autocorrect is that phone keyboards suck. If phones had keyboards that don't suck then nobody would need autocorrect and we could all laugh at people saying "defiantly" because they can't spell "definitely".

If you commit code generated by "AI", you are plagiarising. The model was fed data with a variety of licenses including "all rights reserved" (which is the default if no license is included) without regard for the authors.
November 3, 2025 at 9:28 AM
Why is "just ban the plagiarism machine" invalid because someone could just lie, but "just use this header" valid even though someone could just lie? Just ban the plagiarism machine, it's the same process you have to go through when someone violates a license.

I almost want you to let one of the PUTs through just to find out what the file is.

I know of a man from Scotland by the name of Calgacus who had something to say about Roman order, justice and legality.

Macs have firmware too, dude. The fact people still call PC firmware "the BIOS" even when it's UEFI doesn't matter.
October 27, 2025 at 2:43 AM
And then I said "with nice things […] that fell by the wayside in the 2000s". I didn't say games in the 2000s were full and finished.

Grabbing Unreal Engine off the shelf is hardly "using the latest trendy tech" in my book, but whatever. I think it (and most if not all games) would do no worse if they didn't throw money at celebrity voices.
October 23, 2025 at 8:27 PM
The chatter I saw about it was the fact it looked good and didn't use all the latest trendy tech in a media environment where everyone is talking about raytracing as the Next Big Thing that everyone is going to have to get on board with, nothing to do with the voice work.
October 23, 2025 at 7:27 PM
I was under the impression that it got publicity _after_ they threw a bunch of money at celebrity voice work, not before. If they hadn't done that it still would have sold well and they would have more money.

I didn't say they weren't. I said that's when cheat codes and Easter eggs and stuff stopped showing up.
