I'm deeply enjoying British attempts to do Halloween, like the "Spooky Soup" I saw in cafe yesterday or these valiant attempts by M&S. Why is it spooky? Why is the ketchup "haunting"? What makes it a Halloween persimmon? I love it

"Hedda" (2025) was great fun, esp Nina Hoss' Eileen Lovborg who is about 500% more interesting than Eilert and gets some great material to get stuck into (from a few scenes offstage in the play)

Sorry but Tom Bateman is too handsome for Tesman! needs to be a big loser or at least loser adjacent

the absolute cheek of The Guardian asking for donations when this irresponsible handwaving is part of their live updates on the LA fires?!

who's correct, Politico or a guy called Dave? Unfortunately there's just no way to know, certainly not by finding out the facts and informing readers

seen a lot of responses but am not convinced it's so new for TV writing to be for an audience that isn't paying full attention to the screen the whole time! I enjoy rewatching 90s US network shows, it's striking how often a new character needs to be brought in on the plot right after the ad break >

This collection is from 2003 but still so helpful for thinking through our present moment (unfortunately - so much is still relevant). It's a deep shame it's so hard to find, out of print and no ebook. I imagine the rights may be complex, but it really should be accessible to more people today
