Grant cancellations of any kind are terrible and disruptive, but I've been thinking a lot about the compounding effects that cancelling trainee grants will have - so many promising young people left discouraged and (rightfully) contemplating careers outside of science.

Very disappointing that the annual NIH/FDA Rare Disease Day event was postponed, which brings together researchers, policymakers, physicians, and families to improve patient treatments and experiences (and was a favorite event of mine as a post bac researcher) ncats.nih.gov/news-events/...

Back in 2016, freshman college me joined @urichmond.bsky.social ‘s IQS (Integrated Quantitative Science) program, funded by @hhmi.bsky.social. This was the key experience exposing me to research and lead to me pursuing a PhD. Cutting these programs will make it harder to bring people into science.
