@joann-trejo.bsky.social, @marymunson4.bsky.social and I have a commentary in @natcellbio.nature.com on recent attacks on DEI in biomedical research: "If scientific research, especially biomedical research, is meant to serve everyone, then it requires that everyone has an opportunity to participate"
Scaling back DEI programmes and the loss of scientific talent
Nature Cell Biology - Programmes that support diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in science are under attack in the USA. Data indicate that diversity in the scientific workforce increases...

Back in 2016, freshman college me joined @urichmond.bsky.social ‘s IQS (Integrated Quantitative Science) program, funded by @hhmi.bsky.social. This was the key experience exposing me to research and lead to me pursuing a PhD. Cutting these programs will make it harder to bring people into science.
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the nation’s largest private funder of biomedical research, yesterday killed a $60 million program aimed at making universities’ STEM education more inclusive. scim.ag/3EtS0US
HHMI kills program aimed at boosting inclusivity in STEM education

It’s so nice to be able to celebrate something this week. Newest work from the group! How are nuclear contents delivered to the cytosolic autophagy machinery while maintaining nuclear integrity? Nuclear envelope gymnastics! Cool role for Dnm1/Drp1. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
A quantitative ultrastructural timeline of nuclear autophagy reveals a role for dynamin-like protein 1 at the nuclear envelope - Nature Cell Biology
Mannino et al. provide a quantitative and ultrastructural timeline of nucleophagy in yeast with lattice light sheet microscopy and correlative light and electron tomography. They identify a role for d...
