(1/3) It is hard to believe it’s been a year since we lost Mum. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of her. She had deep faith and a quiet strength that buoyed everyone around her, and she believed in people even when they didn’t believe in themselves.

Everyday people in U.S. immigration detention suffer inhumane treatment that violates the most basic human rights. ICE has become a rogue agency, rampant with physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, and shielded by impunity. It's past time to hold our government accountable for these abuses.

I wrote this letter to my daughters, detailing what I witnessed last week in Louisiana. I believe everyone should read it. ICE detention centers must be shut down, not invested in.
