(1/3) It’s now 9 months since Nasrin Sotoudeh has been denied the basic right to visit her husband, Reza Khandan, in prison. The injustice continues: political prisoners in Evin have now rallied, signing a letter supporting Khandan’s protest over the visitation ban.

Happy #InternationalDayofTheGirl! The little girl in this photo is me. If I could tell my younger self one thing, I’d say: forgive. Forgive, and forgive again. And then, change the structure that allowed that injustice to occur. Always forgive the person. Always work to change the structure.

(3/3) Though I miss her every day, I feel her presence in the choices I make, the work I do, and in the way I try to be braver each day. Thank you, Mum, for everything.
October 10, 2025 at 1:16 PM
(2/3) She showed us the power of persistence, the importance of standing up for what you believe in, and the simple truth that love and compassion can move mountains. She treasured the joys of friendship, and above all, family.

(1/3) It is hard to believe it’s been a year since we lost Mum. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of her. She had deep faith and a quiet strength that buoyed everyone around her, and she believed in people even when they didn’t believe in themselves.

We’ve lost one of the great human beings today. Let’s be inspired by her example, and protect our beautiful planet and all animals.

(1/2) Congratulations to our partner Efrén Olivares, VP of Litigation & Legal Strategy at @nilc.org, on being named to the 2025 @time.com 100 Next list! At @rfkhumanrights.bsky.social, we’re proud to stand with him in the fight for immigrant justice. Read my tribute to Efrén ⬇️.

Everyday people in U.S. immigration detention suffer inhumane treatment that violates the most basic human rights. ICE has become a rogue agency, rampant with physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, and shielded by impunity. It's past time to hold our government accountable for these abuses.

(1/2) I’ve been working on human rights issues for 45 years, and all around the world, the first target of autocrats is always free speech. That’s what’s happening in our country right now, and it’s the most dangerous thing that can happen in a democracy.

(1/3) I'm excited to announce that Stephen Colbert, Host, Executive Producer, and Writer of @colbertlateshow.bsky.social will be honored with the 2025 @rfkhumanrights.bsky.social Ripple of Hope Award at our annual gala on December 9!

(2/2) History has shown us where this road leads. We need every American to speak out. Right now. A free press is not the enemy of the people. It is the voice of the people.

(1/2) Kimmel. Colbert. Lawsuits against the NYT, WSJ, 60 Minutes. Blocking AP's access to the White House. Handpicking reporters for the White House press pool.

In every country where human rights are under assault, the first target is always the truth. And that starts with silencing the press.

(4/5) In May 2025, Arman led our team through the secret RAB-1 site where he was held, just steps from Dhaka’s bustling airport. The Commission has uncovered at least 16 such sites. At RAB-1 alone, thousands are believed to have been detained and in many cases, tortured or killed.

(3/5) Shackled, blindfolded, and subjected to unbearable conditions, his case is one of approximately 1,800 enforced disappearances under former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, now under investigation by Bangladesh’s Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances.
August 30, 2025 at 2:12 PM
(2/5) For eight years, Arman was secretly detained by Bangladesh’s security forces in a pitch-black cell within a clandestine detention site run by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

(1/5) #Bangladesh: On this International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, we honor the resilience of survivors like Mir Ahmad BinQuasem, known as Arman, and remember hundreds who remain missing.

(2/3) This June, Reza endured the terror of Israeli missile strikes targeting the prison. In a recent letter, Reza described how, under the cover of war, Iran’s judiciary is now carrying out death sentences of many of those detained "with utmost speed and ferocity." Read his letter ⬇️.

(1/3) The husband of my dear friend, renowned Iranian lawyer and human rights advocate Nasrin Sotoudeh, has been unjustly imprisoned in Tehran's notorious Evin Prison since December 13, 2024. Reza’s only “crime” is standing beside his wife and speaking out for women's rights in Iran.

(3/4) Local residents, including faith groups and the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, are urging the gov't to shut this facility down. You can join them every Sunday from 5:00pm-6:00pm outside the detention center. RVSP here: bit.ly/RSVP-FLVigils

(1/2) Congratulations to my dear friend Guillaume Ngefa on being appointed as DRC's new Minister of State in charge of Justice. Your lifelong commitment to human rights gives us hope in what the DRC can achieve to move forward in the respect of fundamental rights and the rule of law.

I wrote this letter to my daughters, detailing what I witnessed last week in Louisiana. I believe everyone should read it. ICE detention centers must be shut down, not invested in.
