I read the article. Its fine. It shared point after point and reference after reference to reinforce that there is no ‘healthier’ past. Having some of this information is helpful and actually the kind if writing that I expect from the nyt. The opinion page shd reinforce it

Nyt subscriber but- We would be better off if everyone here would stop sharing this article and the Douthat opinion piece on Canada , and the like. Just ignore them rather than clicking on them.
