What I like about baking with sourdough is that the finished bread will show you whether you took your tile and let the dough rest as much as it needed to. Here I did not. Consequently, the loafs did nor rise as much as desired in the oven. Still happy with the results :)

When your Christmas tree is so big you need the fire department to put the ornaments on.
Also, it was transported there by helicopter which was quite the spectacle and drew a crowd.
Massive Christmas tree on the side of the Collegiate Church of St. Gallen with nice weather and blue sky. A fire department truck has extended its latter to the middle of the tree in order for ornaments to be put on the tree.

Weekend bake turned out nicely: good spotting and color. Still crackling after taking out of the oven :) Overnight resting in the fridge did its job well.

The sun was out last week, sweeping away the fog that has enveloped everything lately. So took the afternoon off to soak in rays of sunshine in hopes of lifting spirits. Mt. Säntis as majestic as usual.

Visited this library today which was an impressive reminder that books as well as libraries, old and new, are equally beautiful and inspiring.

The Greek inscription above the entrance door translates as "healing place for the soul", which is rather poetic as well as accurate.

What a wonderful story about the genesis of the Lilith computer:

“Niklaus also understood that great ideas do not come from genius in isolation, that great advances in our digital society come from sharing one's intellectual assets - through dialogue, arguments, questions, knowledge sharing.”
Niklaus needed his own computer - one that would do his bidding and behave according to his and Modula's rules. The ETHZ hadn't the right skills for such an enterprise but the world at large did; Niklaus enlisted Richard Ohran and half of the Mormon state to bootstrap the ETHZ into the realm of modern computer design and production. Richard came to us from the Brigham Young University in Utah. In Zurich he began the design of the Lilith. But a computer had not only to be designed, it had also to be built and the project needed more skilled hands than were available. Thus started an unusual intercontinental commute. Every three months, or just within the limits of the law, some young graduate assistants from Utah appeared at the ETHZ's doorstep and took over the building baton from their equally young predecessors who had to hightail it out of Switzerland or suffer the wrath of the Labor Department. Someone reading this may be tempted to lift an eyebrow, but it was legal.
