THE SWAC IS BACK. With Prairie View giving LSU some mild stress tonight, the SWAC now has 6 teams in the top 300, an accomplishment that hasn't happened in over 20 years, when there were barely 300 teams in existence. People are saying the SWAC is "gaming the system" by playing so many buy games.

Regardless of what happens anywhere in sports tonight, the biggest upset will be 3-23 Jerome "not the RPI guy" Palm winning the opening tip against 20-3 Mohamed Wague, who comically whiffs on his attempt to gain control while Palm also barely connects.

Utah State hangs on for an 83-78 win contributing to yet another banger of a scoring day across the country.

On hand for a spicy matchup between Illinois State and Utah State at Delta Center.

We officially have an epidemic in college basketball. With Arizona's pantsing of Auburn tonight, 8 out of 30 games between kp top 25 teams have been decided by at least 20 points. A rate which currently dwarfs previous seasons.

Doug Gottlieb threw a chair tonight and for good reason: Green Bay was on the wrong end of the least likely comeback of the season, losing an 11-point lead (with the ball!) in the final 2:53.

Another bananas scoring night, 5th highest of the past 30 years. 9 of the 13 highest-scoring days (min 50 games) now belong to this season

Coming....

Greg McDermott, a model of perfection for all the 2-foul participation absolutists. Then again, Creighton has only had 34 seconds all season where a starter has had 2 fouls in the first half. It took them 8 minutes to commit their first foul against Baylor.

On hand for BYU-Wisconsin. Game number 3 for me, but game 19 for officials Kipp Kissinger and Brooks Wells, who have yet to take a day off.

We had points as expected
November 20, 2025 at 5:21 AM
On hand for the 10th best matchup of the night, Weber State and Campbell, who has the only coach that's also a H.U.M.A.N. poll super voter.
November 20, 2025 at 3:12 AM
Another night that lands on the top 10 scoring days of the past 30 seasons. This season now has the 1st, 2nd, 7th and 9th highest entries of the 1,021 days with at least 50 games since the '97 season.
November 12, 2025 at 5:24 AM
This game did its part (in ot) to contribute to what should go down as the highest scoring day of college basketball since the mid 1990s
November 9, 2025 at 2:33 AM
Honoring today's Celebration of Points by taking in Weber State vs new-look Utah.
November 9, 2025 at 12:09 AM
The top ten scoring days in men's college basketball history* to 8 decimal point accuracy. Two of them have occurred this season. Hopeful today makes a third.

*Since the 1997 season, minimum 50 D-I vs D-I games

Only a handful of finals tonight and already Ohio State has posted its 2nd-fastest game in the internet era and St. John's has its 6th-fastest game.

Uniform number trends! The use of numbers with a digit of 6, 7, 8, or 9 continues to increase!

Add it all up, and about 1 in 23 players on a roster this season have a first name that rhymes with -aden or -alen.
October 23, 2025 at 12:36 PM
But there's a new sub-variant emerging, and that's Kaden. Interestingly, Kaden and Caden were equally named about 20 years ago in the general population. But there are zero Cadens in college basketball and 12 Kadens (which includes one Kadyn).
October 23, 2025 at 12:30 PM
There was a sub-variant of Jalens -> Bradens & Aidans. These two names rose to prominence simultaneously a few years after Jalen. They are still rising. It's not too surprising that there will be two Bra[e]den Smith's playing for top 25 teams this season.
October 23, 2025 at 12:21 PM
I have an unnatural obsession with player name trends, so indulge me for a few graphs about this season's names. First, the incredible wave of Jalens continues to decrease.
