From the 1987 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade...

Special Jim Henson appearance? Brilliant.

Kermit watching his own balloon? Exquisite.

Hot mic small talk? Priceless.

Jim & Willard Scott had a history together going back to the 1950s, when they both worked at the same D.C. NBC affiliate…

There’s something uniquely charming about the blending of voices whenever Henson would perform with Jimmy Dean, who hit the same emotional groove that John Denver would with The Muppets in later collaborations. I wish there were a remastered album featuring all of these Jimmy Dean & Rowlf duets...

And here’s hoping you never again think of Thanksgiving without thinking about peanut butter and New Jersey...

Rowlf & Jimmy Dean celebrate Thanksgiving on THE JIMMY DEAN SHOW. Again, I’m struck by the easy-going rapport the two had, and it’s no wonder these segments, and Rowlf’s presence, were a highlight - and hit - of the the show...

This Jim Henson Productions pilot presentation for HANDMADE VIDEO is dated May 7, 1990 - Just a little over a week before Jim's unexpected passing on May 16. I'm curious what Jim would have thought of the modern accessibility of creative tools/distribution (& yes, that is @danagould.bsky.social).

Weird that, for a period of time long after the once-pervasive genre had fallen out of favor, the last bastion of westerns in media was... bubble gum ads.

I think we may need to engage with the very real possibility that @gailsimone.bsky.social is an extra-dimensional superintelligence training itself on human responses to its posts…

WAKE UP, PEOPLE!

From his solo series INNES BOOK OF RECORDS, here’s Neil Innes performing his song “Say Sorry Again” (as well as playing all 3 Marx brothers). IBOR was a unique show, as each episode was essentially a collection of short films set to Neil’s music, plus poetry & short vignettes from other artists…

“Most people don’t believe facts.”

It’s worth a moment to watch the rest of @hodgman.bsky.social’s debut appearance on THE DAILY SHOW for its exquisite timing, timelessness, & absurdism.

I don’t praise lightly, but I praise this fully as the debut of a unique comic voice. TAKE THAT, JOHN.

On this day, 20yrs ago, @hodgman.bsky.social made his debut as a guest on THE DAILY SHOW. From the moment I saw this segment, it was clear what a unique comedic presence & sharp wit he had, and I’ve been truly delighted to see it blossom over the years. Happy Televersary, my friend.

If you’re only familiar with the more Beatle-esque reworking of Neil Innes’ “Shangri-La” from the RUTLES ARCHEOLOGY album, here he is performing his original version on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. I love the lyrics of this song, the way Neil’s brain worked, & his winking insights into the human experience.

When @ericidle.bsky.social came over to host SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE in 1977, he brought Neil Innes over as his musical guest, and Neil reprised his RUTLAND WEEKEND TELEVISION role of The Rutles' Ron Nasty, performing his Lennon pastiche "Cheese & Onions"...

Neil Innes performing "I'm The Urban Spaceman" on RUTLAND WEEKEND TELEVISION in a form similar to how it would later be captured in the MONTY PYTHON LIVE AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL film...

Not a day goes by I don’t miss my pal Neil Innes & wish we could chat again. An amazing human in all the most brilliantly absurd ways, always keen to have a drink & a think & a bit of uke to accompany both. A sweet soul. Here’s a cover he did of his friend George’s song the last time we were together

While there's no doubt Julie Taymor swung for the fences with SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK, I remain fascinated by what an incredible amalgam of bizarre choices it wound up being against what general audiences would expect from a Spider-Man musical. It plays as both fever dream & comedy sketch.

Another Neil Innes gem from RUTLAND WEEKEND TELEVISION…
November 16, 2025 at 5:58 AM
There have been many attempts at lampooning Elton John over the years, but the brilliance in Neil Innes' approach from RUTLAND WEEKEND TELEVISION is to emulate Elton's musicianship while gently ribbing the oft-times endearingly flowery/nonsensical nature of Bernie Taupin's lyrics...

From RUTLAND WEEKEND TELEVISION, the sketch that launched The Rutles - featuring Neil Innes' brilliant Beatles pastiche "I Must Be In Love"...

I'm just going to assume it was this obnoxious ad campaign that vanished Korkers from existence. (But bonus points for a well-known character actor early in their career...)

A little photo celebrating the 78th anniversary of Carl Barks' creation of Scrooge McDuck. While I don't have the comic he first appeared in, I am very happy to have the first issue of his solo comic...

One more bit of @ericidle.bsky.social & Neil Innes RUTLAND WEEKEND TELEVISION brilliance, from the end of the show's first series (season for us Yanks)... THIS is how you wrap a run of episodes...
